Anyone watching The Next Great American Band?
On Fox on Friday nights. From the makers of American Idol.
Thoughts, comments, opinionated rants, down right degradation, or profess your love of all things musical no matter how contrived.
Actually IMHO there is some talent on that show. More later....

Larree: I see you are mellowing in your old age. Nice to see you too. Life is good around here. Not enough time for music as I would like but I'm hanging in there.
Actually I have found that show quite interesting. They have a pretty talented group of bands. The cool thing is they get to play originals and do covers every week. Arrange stuff any way they want. The fact that they are bands makes it way more interesting than something like Idol.
Some pretty awesome players and in all genres from Bluegrass to Big band.
Check it out one of these days your mellowness. Good to see ya.

We have a similar type of show in the UK - The X Factor - it is shite!!! - all manufactured boy and girl bands, no actual players that I can tell. I believe these type of shows are 'dumbing down' creative talent and ability to the point of no return!
At least it sounds like it is live (It is, isn't it???)
As a great Scottish comedian (can't remember name) once said:
Fucking BOOOOO! (Because sometimes BOOOOO! is not enough)

Well I think these guys have serious chops. No boy bands or hard core pop stuff on this one. Don't get me wrong some are better than others but some are truly good. Check it out one of these Fridays.

Gotta say the Judges seem to have a pretty good pedigree!
Will look further!

I've caught it a couple of times, and have actually dug some of the bands. There is this one hillbilly band from San Pedro that are actually pretty good, they did an excellent version of Elton John's "Honky Cat" the other day.
The format of these shows does become tiresome and predictable though.

Hi Gary I agree, but it's cool to see opportunities for talented bands of all genres playing original material. I give'em credit for that.
If you liked the bluegrass guys (Something and the Old Number 7) listen to the Clark Brothers, they also can play, BIG TIME.
Yes the judges are also quite impressive IMHO. They give worthy criticism too.
I'm gonna ' keep watching.
