What are some of your favorite unique guitar tunings?
I've been experimenting with a lot of open C and D chord tunings for my music, and I'm just curious what tunings any of you have played around with and loved.

I've written a lot of songs with the top and bottom string tuned to D, not sure what that's called. I saw some cool tunings in Keith Richards' book that I'm going to try at some point.

Well I'm kidding sort of though she does have the best ear.
The most common tuning change might be the lower the e to a d
for like, Dear Prudence or something. Of course when I learned to play the fucking guitar I was coming off banjo me mum taught me, and I tuned the guitar the banjo way since that was the only damned way I could play it. Paul taught me how to tune a fucking guitar, basically. Or maybe I'd been shown the 'proper' way prior to Paul, but prior to Paul I didn't give a shit. Sometimes in the studio I'd get an odd resonance, well I suppose it works on stage too, but you notice this shit more in the studio than you do with a million screaming maniacs contesting your public address system. Anyway, tuning the high e just a micrometer flat,
and then how it blends with George who actually is in tune, gets a weird panaoramadingdong shimmer chord thing going on. If you like that sort of thing.

That's if you concern yourself melodically, not everyone does.
Some shit you hear and you know they tune by raising the volume.
Oh shit, I'm officially not only a dead fart but an old one as well.

I have experimented with a lot of tuning , open tuning for slide I like open e tuning instead of d for slide, I tried mountain dulcimer tuning on guitar that was strange, recently on my new song Dream Away I experiment with 432 htz tuning you can look it up it takes your whole tuning and lower it slightly I found it pleasing and really like it and its easy to do with a snark.
432 htz tuning is supposed to be perfect pitch tuning I don't know if that is true or not but I think it sounds nice on 12 string.

Keep experimenting there are lots of things to try and you might find some sounds that you like.

I am mostly classic, I use D minor occasionally, but Outside of that I don't really experiment with alt tuning, it messes with my major/minor muscle memory. Besides, with a strong foundation on the basics, chording and arpeggios are easily achieved with any kind of augmented or diminished modes, because you are only keeping track of one step deviation. I'm so much of a simpleton, my acoustic guitar has all the black keys (piano keys) marked on my fretboard, just to help keep my bearings when writing guitar parts, so I am kind of married to classic.

Two Silo Complex -I can't believe you used that 432 hz tuning for Dream Away! I have read a lot about that alternate tuning - and even considered adjusting our recording software - or at least converting songs we already recorded to 432 - so no surprise and very interesting to me that I reacted to Dream Away as I did - and, as I commented, it was all about the rhythm guitar. Huh ...

if you do 432 hrtz tunig you don't change any chord positions and the entire tuning is slightly lowered.

Yes I encourage you to take your existing recording and convert them to 432 hrtz listen to each back to back you will hear the difference it is pretty easy to do in modern daw.

yep 432 hz tuning on Dream away. It has a 12 sting guitar recorded with a blend of piezo pickup that I built from radio shack for 8 dollars and an open mic sm 57 recorded fender frontman practice amp that I bought for 20 dollars at a second hand store.

The blend of fender frontman and piezo pickup created a cool hall type effect

The six string guitar is really cheap crappy peavy rockman that i bough for about 40 bucks and recorded that direct and added some ambient effects. that were built into my DAW.

Right now I am using reaper for that.

Two Silo Effect ... no thanks necessary. I really love Dream Away and now I'll totally experiment with the 432 hz tuning.
