How do stupid things become cool?
For instance texting. A lot of people addicted to doing that hate to type. Why not just talk to somebody or leave a voice mail?

How is texting stupid?

Because it takes less time to record a voice mail and it's a clearer means of communication.

texting enables communication when otherwise unpractical.

anything can be overused and abused, sure, but that does not make it stupid.
I personally do not leave voice messages because I don't like listening to them and replaying them to get the number because I didn't write it down fast enough, or I couldn't hear what they said over background noise, etc.

texting, on the contrary is quite practical, concise and convenient, imo

So what you're saying there is that you prefer texting because you fear your own inarticulateness?

I fucking hate texting.

I always reply to text messages with phone calls. Usually never hear from them again.

I have never texted in my life. I know it makes me sound old and dated but I prefer a more personal touch like hearing someones voice. I can better gauge their emotional state and clearly understand what they are trying to get across. However, I would certainly not say that texting is stupid. Every generation has found their own way of communicating. I say that if it works for ya, more power to ya! Just don't send a text to me because I will not get it. I have a land line and two dumb cell phones. One for each car. I only turn the dumb phones when I am on a long driving trip or away on vacation. My land line is free because my wife is a retired programmer for AT&T. All our calls are free. Why pay for something when you have it free? Right?
