CTWitt.2, Singer-Songwriter (...mostly songwriter)
Hi, fellow IMP'ers. I'm fairly new here on the site, so I figure I ought to introduce myself some way or another. As you can probably guess from the title, I tend to be a bit depreciatory at times. Admittedly, I've been a bit slow in fully embracing the concept of myself as an 'artist', but songwriting has been a hobby of mine for a while. I took some basic lessons for a couple of months after I got my first (and up to this point, only) acoustic guitar, but aside from that I've just winged things mostly. I have learned some pre-existing songs on my own since then, but I usually favor spending time just toying around with different sounds and ideas.

In terms of the CTWitt.2 sound, I don't really know. I don't generally adhere to any specific genre. The main thing that connects the songs (aside from me singing) is that they are done on acoustic and are pretty minimalistic in terms of production/layering.

Anyway, I guess that's my intro for now. See yall around.

Witt

Welcome to the pipeline, remember to pick a personal symbol.

Hope you feel free to participate in the various discussions.

Hi there, I like the slightly more experimental stuff, and yours is pretty unique. Re vocals, you have a good deep and interesting voice, you just sound a little nervous but I think as you get more confident you'll get to know what suits you best.

Welcome

Thanks Scott. I hadn't really even noticed the symbol thing until you mentioned it. I'll have to look into that.

Thanks! Glad to hear you enjoyed my songs; at least the couple on my page right now. I've got other tracks at various levels of completeness and polish out on Sound Cloud which I plan on uploading more of here as time goes on.

As far as the vocal thing goes, I totally agree. I realize I'm not 'bad' per se, but it is definitely something I've had and have to continue working at. It's nice to hear you think I've got potential.

I don't know what I expected....

Well, sort of what I expected,
was a guy who can kinda sing and maybe play either a piano or a guitar.

You can actually seemingly do quite a bit.

And, you have your own vision of what it is you want to do.
So keep doing it.

You don't need to be told you have potential, you have ability. Use it. Do it.

Be it.

Welcome To Indie Music People.com

I do not own the place,

you'd never know it by the way I walk around here though.

No one gives you permission to be brilliant,
and how fun would it even be if they did.

Follow your own guiding light.

I'm either going to be the biggest damned thing in the whole damned world,
or not.

It won't be for lack of trying however.
Be the you you want to be.

Oh and your voice is fine. Have you ever listened to Dylan?
He was awful when he was good. We love him just the same don't we.

Being an Artist is a thing like no other.

Don't approach it apologetically.
Don't be embarrassed about being you.
Wait for everyone else to become embarrassed about being them.

If you gotta pick one, I'd go with that one.

With the implication.
They're not going to be embarrassed about being them.
So don't be embarrassed about being you.

Everyone has their own 'way' of going about their Art.

Some dabble.
Some just get nekkid and do cannonballs into the pool.
Regardless of who happens to be present.

Oh and the more you sing,
the more you won't worry about it....

you shouldn't worry about it.
Because what's the 'it'?

Someone somewhere once told you to shut up.
F*** 'em.

They told me to shut up too.

Did I listen?

Nope. Ain't about to.

Thanks! That was quite a mouthful. I appreciate the feedback/commentary though. Glad you enjoyed my songs.

"And, you have your own vision of what it is you want to do." This line made my day. I put a lot of work into giving each song I do its own identity, so it's great to hear that.

As far as the singing self-commentary goes, lets just say that when I started trying the songwriting thing a few years back I was more than a little out of practice vocally. As far as I can remember, until that point I had pretty much avoided even trying to sing, period. These days I mostly joke around about it, as I've definitely improved a lot since then both in consistency and range, but I still have a habit of making disclaimers sometimes.

Hi Witt

Just listened to the first song on your page Autumn.

I thought it was pretty good. Shows a lot of potential.

What did you use to record with?

Steve

Thanks! I'm glad "Autumn" left a good impression. It's ironic that you should ask what I recorded this one with, because it's actually my first (and as of now, only) studio recording. It was done at Bird Cloud Recording, a little place in Edwardsville, IL. I don't remember what programs/equipment the producer used to record off the top of my head, other than that there a lot of mics involved.

To each their own....

I prefer to do additional takes as many as it takes
until I sound like I know what I am doing.

As opposed to disclaimers.

You never actually buy a record, and see it say written on it,
"thank you for buying my record, I apologize for it not being as good as I'd like".

If it's not as good as you like, you need to do another take.

I'm just trying to make a point here.
Yes, I already know I'm annoying, everyone knows that, now you do too.

If you were a mere dabbler, I'd have said nothing at all in the first place.

You have a 'way' about what you are doing,
that tells me, you have genuine creativity going on in you,

so, not that you have asked for it,
but lucky you, you get to hear it anyway,

my advice to you my friend,
is forget the disclaimers, and just do it till you're satisfied with it,
many takes as it takes.

Because you're not a dabbler,
you show all the earmarks of an actual artist,
so live up to it.

Disclaimers are basically lame.

Don't be lame.
Be thorough.

"Just my opinion."

Which is, in effect, my disclaimer. heh.

I thought it sounded like it was done in a studio.

Thanks for the info.

Do you have anything at home you use to record with?

I do all my music on my iPad Pro now using an App called Auria.

No problem. I've been using a program called Stagelight, basically a windows equivalent of Garageband. It's been a bit difficult at times, but considering how cheap the core software is (I think it might actually be free now) I can't really complain.
