I touched a lot of things and stuff in my life, so it probably apply to songs too

Family stuff doesn't interest me. Not too keen on songs about sports either.

I try to write songs that touch on different subjects each time so there is no repeating and the songs are fresh.
Lately I've been creating instrumentals so I only have to worry about the music itself.

I don’t think anything is off limits, but trying to make a direct political point usually results in poor quality. There are exceptions, but when you have to adjust the music to make your point it is rarely good.

Quite true, Francesca.
Tendentious songs, expressing or intending to promote a particular cause or point of view rarely have a joi de vivre, that seems a liberating feature of music.
"Sunday, Bloody Sunday", perhaps an exception, turn the volume on the radio up when that song plays.
Also, "Revolution" w legs, I'd say...so there are exceptions, with music there are always exceptions...

I don't have a no go area but quite often what the song is actually about could be well hidden in the lyrics and also when people listen to lyrics they hear what they want to hear to some extent - reflecting where they're at rather than where the songwriter might have been thinking about when they wrote it - if that makes sense - if you ask me about what any of my songs are about some are obvious and others might surprise you!

I stay away from porn and you will never hear a song of mine that has the "N" word, "B" word or any ethnic slurs. I don't glorify domestic violence either.
