Topic: The State of Our World
As we enter another week of anticipated violence in the middle east, I decided to take a moment to talk about
the state of the world we live in. I will admit to having watched a ton of coverage on the Israeli/Hezbollah conflict and the Iraq War on various
tv news networks, and have heard every possible outcome scenario and potential result of what has developed over
the past month. The sad thing is that the master plan of bringing democracy to this war torn region of the world, albeit honorable and ambitious, has resulted in the development of stronger anti-democratic enemies in the form of a uniting amongst terrorist groups against freedom's cause. We now know that terrorist organizations in Egypt have joined with Bin Laden and his network, and our hardline policies towards Syria have resulted in their alignment with Iran and a flow of weapons into Hezbollah hands. Calling a group of nations an evil axis, even if it is true, has done nothing but create enemies in the region. Bush should have known better than to let his advisors put that in a speech. It was a mistake that has cost lots of lives. Now we have come to a point of no return. We have solid enemies in Iran, Syria, North Korea, and the various terror organizations who use those countries as suplliers and safe havens. The bottom line, our mideast policy has been a catastrophic failure. Our under-estimation of our enemies has been our downfall, and our troops have been the one's who
have paid the price. They have been put in a terrible predicament. Who do you trust now that we have so many scared civilians who will save their own lives by selling out those who are there to protect them. I don't want to speculate as to whether we will ever repair Iraq, because I have been so saddened by the money scandals and wasted resources that have hindered our cause.
We have a president who, when visiting with an international press core, made jokes instead of addressing direct questions regarding our goals in the region. I saw this on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the only show with the nerve to show the president's lack of presidential qualities in a time of crisis. Basically, he wanted to talk about cattle instead of Israel, so he did. In the upcoming weeks there is a good chance that we are going to see a further escalation in the violence in the region due to the admition of weapon supply by Iran and Syria to Hezbollah. The reason being, our enemies have clearly identified themselves, and have shown no remorse for their actions. Bush talks about Hezbollah in a way that makes it clear he has no vested interest in bringing a peaceful solution to this conflict. This sends a message to the terrorist organizations that this is going to be a tit for tat affair. This is the wrong way to handle this. Israeli troops have been working hard to fight a tough enemy, and though valient in their efforts, they are now fighting Iran and Syria indierctly, which is a major cause for concern, due to an increased missle range from Hezbollah's supply chain from Iran. The people of Israel are being put in a situation that is basically a worst case scenario. I hope deep down that US forces do not become involved in this conflict in any other way but rescue and recovery missions to help our citizens out of this unsafe area. The culmination of 6 years of bad mideast policy has led us here, and as we look ahead there are mistakes we can avoid making that we made in Iraq and Afghanistan, mainly, never underestimate a religiously driven militant group. We have to fight smarter and truly see what drives our enemies. In my opinion, they are driven by the visual of an outside religion trying to crusade over them. It's not about Democracy in the mideast, becuase as long as you have religious states, democracy can't work, as is the case with the trending toward a right wing religious state in
