**The Great Gas Gouge, a political blog from the Green**
Political Blog: 4/25/2006
Topic: The Great Gas Gouge
It's a status quo day in Texas, people drive their automobiles (mostly trucks) to their jobs and back home again, dreading that day of the week when they will inevitably give upwards of $3.00 a gallon to oil companies to fill up their tanks and make it on with their lives. So what, you say, we all know this, and yes we do, but what are we doing to stop this from continuing. I have no choice but to drive an suv, beacause I have to haul around music equipment and travel alot, and there are many people just like me who have no choice but to use our trucks for our livelihoods. So, if we have to drive these vehicles, then isn't our government supposed to do something to allow people to do their jobs without starving themselves to fill their tanks. How can our government allow Exxon to reach the top of the fortune 500 for 2005. Profiting from war and tragedy has become the means to and end for oil companies, because our government has too tight of ties to big oil, and therefore feels inclined to line their buddies pockets at the expense of the middle class. It is happening right in front of our eyes. In San Antonio, Valero has grown out of control, as profits continue to soar. We need to use our voices and get some resistance to this trend going, or we are going to see $7 a gallon in 5 years. It's just sad that so many lives are being lost in this war for oil and corporate profit. Next time you fill up your gas, think about where that money is going. Is it going to help the lives of those who have been displaced by tragedy around the world? You know it isn't. Look no further than the former Exxon CEO's 300 million dollar retirement package. That's where your money is going. The policies of our current administration are the source of the problem, and until they can no longer get away with robbing us blind, they will continue to take us to the cleaners. So I urge all of you, Republicans, Democrats, Indies, to make your voices heard, and end this governments gas gouge on the american people.
send me your thoughts...
till next time,

The oil companies are not the only ones responsible. Here in MD the tax on gasoline is 41.9 cents/gallon(combined).
The oil companies are banging us in the ass with a barrel. Just keeping up a sufficient standard of living prevents a lot of people from mounting a proper protest(imagine if only 5 major US cities didn't buy gas for a single day). So we are left with naught to do except to complain to a self-perpetuating ogliarchy that has no real desire to listen to us peasants anyway except to give us lip service to get our votes. Had a democrat been in office Haliburton wouldn't have gotten the contracts they did, but Occidental Petroleum would have. Both sides are the bitches of these mega corporations.
Exxon reported an 8 billion windfall profit for the first quarter. None of it is likely to be taxed. Meanwhile our government is blowing money on the "War on Terror" and "War on Drugs" not to mention the wasteful practices of FEMA on the Gulf Coast(do you know how many billions of dollars are rotting away in Georgia?).
We should tax the hell out of these big corporations. Cut down the size of the government and yoink the "implied powers" of the presidency and courts. Unfortunately the people that actually have the power to do such things are currently drunk from this power.
The only thing that we can do is be patient, grumble as loud as we can, vote third party, and walk bike or take public transport whenever possible.
And those are my thoughts.
