Such A Shocker
Last week, I was check the nomination list after the announcement and it was none. I got no nominations for this year's Josie Music Awards. It was a devastating shocker, and I feel so devastated and frustrated. After all the anguish and despair in my life went completely wrong. I tried hard as I can, I worked hard as I can. In the end, it was hurtful and true.

Shawn, okay ,yes it is discouraging frustrating and disappointing. Shawn, you are going to have to learn to be grateful for the talents you have, what you can and are doing. Please make an effort to not place so much importance on these nominations or awards. You have to look at your own achievements, month by month and year by year and see the improvement and growth in your abilities. Compare yourself to yourself and not place so much emphasis on what your did not achieve in getting nominations or wins. If you can, look at your music as a gift to others that you can share, and for the reviews you may get here or elsewhere.
You have achieved success in getting spins on radio, that is a big win, and that in itself is a tremendous accomplishment, not everyone gets their vibe playing and reaching an audience.
So do up a checklist, write down all of your successes then write down goals for this upcoming year
How to become better at your craft
How to become a better guitarist, vocalist and performer
Get out there and work your chops
The more you play, the more your engage yourself, the more confidence you will build
Think of all of what you have done and be thankful for the things you have accomplished
Now, look up to the future, eyes on the big goal of becoming the best you can be and do
Best of luck and may things go well for you and accept, adapt and adjust to the tasks at hand
best

Shawn, it's cool if you feel disappointed. You worked your ass off and want to be recognized for it. But don't let it keep you down, man. Sometimes us artists might be a few years ahead of peoples' ears. And they may or may never catch up! As long as you are satisfied with your works, that is all that matters.
And keepin' it real - I admit I was shocked that January Last was not nominated in the Acoustic category. Sure, I was very happy with the nominations I received and floored that my band won one. But it still blew my mind that that one didn't get the nom. So many people told me they loved it. But I listened to all of the nominated songs during the voting process and dug all of them. I guess the nomination process was pretty fierce at the end. And we can't all get the prize.
So, it is okay to feel a little disappointed - but do NOT let it keep you down!

Take it from me, a man who has won a whole lot of shit. You win some and you lose some. You get some and there are times when you don't get any at all. It is during those times that you truly realize just how big an honor it is when you get recognized for your work. Knowing that there are literally millions of people out there who are just as deserving as you are. The tough love response: Work harder, study harder and get better. The soft love response: You will do better next year. The real world response: Be thankful regardless to what you get or don't get. Be thankful anyway.
