What takes up most of your time, playing music or making it ?
What % of each, and which makes you happiest ?

I average anout 12 hours a day in my studio both playing and making music. Because I manually play most of the instruments, I would say that playing probably takes up most of my time. However, when I am playing my music I am making my music so I am not sure of the difference. I can't make music without playing it. Not sure of how to answer that one!

Thanks Stoneman, Probably I wasn't too clear what I was trying to say (as usual for me) I meant listening to other people's music, radio, TV, players etc. just for entertainment - I was impressed how much time you spend in your studio playing however :)

Used to be 80% making and 20% listening. Now the pendulum has gone the other way i would say now 30% making and 70% listening. Still one of fav hobby's is going to record stores and buying weird records no-one has heard of. Have u seen the price of a Pink Floyd vinyl like 25+ . If i am correct a vinyl record is some acetate and a cardboard cover. Must cost them at least a dollar to make

I'm doing a lot of listening these days. I listen here as I add new songs to my stations, and I listen to a lot of my favorite old albums when I'm not on here. And some newer albums, too. Lately, I have been listening to the new Yes album, Mirror to the Sky. I think it is their best album in decades, and it has me revisiting some of my favorite old Yes albums. Some others I recently listened to include the first five Steve Miller Band albums, 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus by Spirit, and a lot of old jazz; Mingus, Trane, Wes Montgomery, Sun Ra, Eric Dolphy, Herbie Hancock, etc. Oh, and one of my favorite Avant-garde free jazz artists, Mary Halvorson. She is my favorite musician/composer of the 21st century.

Oh, my bad. I would say that I spend way more time making music than listening.

I spend the most time doing neither, waiting until I "feel it". Then it just seems to come easy.

That's a very cool answer Lance but waiting for the right feel means the last chance to be an indie music person could pass you by :)

As a musician, the balance between playing and making music is crucial. While performing allows me to connect with an audience check gia diamond number and experience the joy of music firsthand, the creative process of making music, composing, and producing, is where I craft my unique voice and contribute to the evolution of the art form. Both aspects are integral to my identity as a musician.

I'd say making music takes up the majority of my time. I'm a musician from Oakland, and I've been working on my craft for years. While I do enjoy playing music too, the creative process of making it is where I invest most of my energy. By the way, I recently found this awesome oakland raider letterman jacket that's become my go-to outfit for gigs – it's a perfect blend of style and team spirit!

Larree, sorry I missed you out earlier. Wow, you are doing plenty of listening... it will hopefully lead to new producing ideas later :)

Thanks John-David, It's good that you still find the producing experience as rewarding as you always have done. I think time shrinks and years disappear when you have that mission - I'll check the link, thank you :)

It varies for me. Both are often intertwined too. I'll often be listening to something that triggers some inspiration that leads me into my studio.
