Carpal Tunnel Issues...
Hey Everyone,

I just found out that I'll definitely have to have surgery on my right hand/wrist. I've been plagued with pain and numbness since December of 07'. Due to the lifting of my elderly mom back in October, when she got really ill, I started having numbness and pain symptoms. I'm sure playing the guitar over the years hasn't helped, but I don't play on a consistently large basis, so I really think the lifting of my mom caused alot of this. It has really been hard because I haven't been able to play much at all, therefore my songwriting and singing have really been affected. Not that I'm the greatest guitarist, but it's the only vehicle that I have for my songs.:0
I wondered if anyone else has suffered from Carpal Tunnel problems? And if so, did you receive the surgery to help allieviate the pressure and swelling on the nerve? I've talked to 3 people that have had the surgery and they've had alot of success and relief.
Please give me advice if you have any!

Best to all you IACers...:)

- Gina

Just give that old (or young) doc that beautiful smile of yours Gina ... He wouldn't dare to do anything but his best work after that ...

You're in my thoughts girl ....

Be very careful who you get to do this surgery, I have a friend who had surgery which did not go well and her hand is worse now than it was before.

Best Regards DK's mum

I've somehow managed to avoid CTS so far, but I know that it's very painful and can interfere with all sorts of 'normal' activities. I hope the surgery can ease the pain, and get you back to your life and music more completely. You have a lot of support and best wishes.

Hi Gina

I'm not sure it's the same but I have a wrist problem (tendonitis) from repeating a finger picking movement that is difficult, and swinging a hammer during the day!

I had a cortizne shot for it about 3 months ago and it has just returned!

i have been advised to use a natural creme made from capsicum called "percutane" available at chemists here ---it does help relieve the pain but doesn't cure anything----also anti--inflamitories give relief ---I'm a bit loathe to take them unless it's really bad----also stopping playing for a couple of weeks is advised.

I hope your operation is successful

with love

Rob

Gina - see if you can find a Bowen Therapist in your area, Bowen is a really useful healing technique that helps with all kinds of muscular and tendon issues. Susan and I wish you success in finding a healing situation!

A chiropractor might be very helpful. Plus, it feels good!

I've been through something like that, too. Only with me, my numbness turned out to be MS, so count your blessings and do everything you need to do to get well. Good luck, Gina.

With today's technology, you should be fine. I would do some homework on the doctors if you had any worries.
Good luck Gina.
I'll be looking forward to hearing new songs as soon as you're able.

wow so sorry to hear this. I heard that B vitamins particularly B6 can help with Carpal Tunnel. I would suggest trying anything natural to boost your physical well being and strength, and get a second opinion on the surgery. I wonder if there has been any success with acupuncture...I know it helped me when I had back pain, and is known for helping with pain and healing.

Thank you all, for your great support and advice! I did try physical therapy on my hands, for about 2 months, (my left hand was also numb and had pain), but it now is better). I think because i'm right handed, it complicates everything. Also, doing contrast baths does temporarily take away the pain...immersing the hand into hot then cold water.
The surgeon that I'm going to has a good reputation, and I have a friend that had this same surgery done by him, and she's been pain - free after it.

For now, i'll just have to channel all of my energy into my voice and lyrics, until my guitar playing starts again...:)

Best Wishes Everybody!
