The "best" is very subjective to say the least ... but one of my all-time favorites is Alvin Lee ... IMO he puts Beck to shame ...
As far as IAC their are MANY great axe players ... I could list at least 50 but Marc Ceccotti has to be one of my Fav's ....
Andy Broad and Papa George are two really good blues men ...
I'll check out your tune .. soon ..
Peace
Sam

Yes, Alvin Lee & his rhoadhouse buddy Johnny Winter rate up there N the "best" category...but I still think "best" is reserved 4 those players who can lay down a finger picked classical acoustic passage tasifully, as well as croon'N,melding the blueZ, & still B able 2 Xplode with firey leads of Xpression N2 the universe of ROCK...

I was lucky enough to see Alvin Lee at an impromptu outdoor venue in 1975 ... he played for three solid hours ... I have NEVER seen a performance like that in all my years ... and I have seen almost all the great guitarist (that were around before 1990) ... except Hendrix ...
I think anyone would be surprised about just how versatile Alvin Lee really is .. He is definitely a master and can play any style from Classical on down ...
Still haven't got around to listening to your tune but I'll try to today after the PARTEEEE

Yes, it's sooooo tru that a performer putting on a live show with theatrics and stage presence outshines any studio work that an Axe-Man lays down on take 22...The best show I've ever seen was Rod Stewert, N his younger days...Did A back flip off 20 foot high speakers as his Ntrance and it just got better from there with Ronnie Woods play'n the strings...reminds me of John Kay of Steppenwolf and his mike stand ...he would dance and RAPE it on stage, as he rocked out...un4getable...Steve Howe of YES was remarkable 4 his presence and ability 2 do difficult songs live...HaPPy eAsTeR...~Austn

The best guitarist I ever saw for his day was Phil Keaggy of Glass Harp, back in 68 or so..back when Hendrix supposedly called him the 'best guitarist'. He could 'emote' with the guitar better than anyone I ever heard. Then he went religious and kind of dropped out of the mainstream. I just googled him and see that he's still active doing 'Christian' music.
I found a clip of him with Glass Harp on youtube...this was from '72, right before he 'dropped out'.
