AM I DREAMING???
I STILL can't believe I won and it's been over 24 hrs. since the awards presentation. I just want to let the other artists in the Hip Hop Genre that were nominated know that it was an honour just to be in the same category. Gecko's song, "Short Story" had been #1 in the genre for the last 3 months, Bakuku's, "Dip" was #5 in the KIAC BIG 50, The Knotz, "Bounce", Miz Kaz, "Til The End" and Stoneman's, "It Is What It Is" are all IAC staff picks and FANTASTIC songs to boot. That is all the more reason I cried when I saw that I had won last night.
I want to thank all who nominated and voted for "Dear Momz" for this high honour and to those stations who have our song on their stations, 2mental, Jewelz and I will forever be in your debt. I am honored and humbled by this experience that I will NEVER forget!!! To all the nominees of the 2008 Golden Kayaks...Thanks for opening our ears to incredible music and to incredible people. I am Blessed to call all of you "my friends"...
Much Love,
Slim

Slim, your humbleness and appreciation of being a Golden Kayak recipient is such a wonderful thing to observe. This award could not have gone to a more deserving home.
To be honest, I have struggled to get into the hip hop genre but I can honestly say, you have changed my whole perspective and opened me to a musical genre I would otherwise have probably continued to dismiss.
Your presence here and your genuineness has totally dispelled my previous bias and stereotyping of the hip hop genre. Thank you so much my friend and keep up the awesome work. I totally dig Dear Momz :)

Just by you saying that, SP, you have granted me the one wish that I wished for when I started doing music...To just change just ONE persons mind from all the bad stereotypes that Hip Hop has brought upon itself this last decade with my music....
Thank you...

I have a HUGE smile in my heart hearing you say that Slim :D
I was just listening to Dear Momz again and, without a word of exaggeration, I quite literally empathised with your tears of mixed emotions. I can honestly say I believe I felt the emotions you have been going through since receiving your GK.
I tend to be a very empathic person and find it very easy to connect with others whether consciously or otherwise. What I felt was a mix of a small percentage of sorry with a much greater percentage of elation. I quite literally had a tear running down my cheek and that feeling of adrenaline mixed with passion and elation running through my entire body.
I am 100 percent serious about this.
I can also say that if I ever get the chance to hang out with you guys, I think it would be an unforgettable time.

Gah...sorry to hijack your topic Slim but the 'sorry' I typed was supposed to be 'sorrow'. Doh! I hope that makes more sense now.

Slim! I was incredibly pleased to hear you take the GK for Hip Hop. Like Titania, I don't listen to too much hip hop, but "Dear Momz..." - with its message and soulful delivery are completely worthy. It helps that the music is tight and top-notch. Heartiest congratulations.

I dont usually come on to IAC much because its difficult for me to get any free time. but what i do know is that everyone on IAC has showed us unconditional love from the very beginning. in Hip Hop its hard for many artists to support our goals in music because the industry in itself can be quite sleezy (crabs in a bucket) but i feel fortunate that were able to reach such a talented and diverse community. in fact im still dreaming....i honestly cant believe everythings starting to come together. slimdog and i have worked so hard to reach our dreams. although we have a long road ahead of us it's moments like these that keep us strong and hopeful. once again thank you for the honesty and support! much respect and love!

Coming from you Susan and SILVERWOOD, such great artists, that means alot. It's tough to change the game of Hip Hop right now, with big corporations only taking a certain style of hip Hop and playing it over and over again on the airwaves. It's tough to get our style of Hip Hop on the air, let alone getting people to like it because they have been force fed by major labels and radio. That's why we believe in IAC and their goals in bringing music like ours and yours to the forefront of music. That's why it's so important to support each other in this cause. To add links to other genres and stations so that people that come by your sites can check out other artists that you like so that WE ALL can win in the long run. I firmly believe that 2008 is the start of something big for IAC in the realm of music and 2mental and I am SO glad to be a part of this and to be recognized for what we are trying to do...

Not to be rambling, but I just finished listening to the broadcast and I totally enjoyed listening to Scott and Jilly. The moment that touched me is when I heard Scott go "alright" in the background when he announced our name as the winner. That really touched me....Thanks Scott!!!
