MTV VISITS IAC...WELCOME TO THE BLAZING VORTEX OF INDIE MUSIC!!!
I am a flight attendant of 17 years with a major carrier for those of you here that do not know, and I get a chance to meet some amazing people, famous and not famous alike. I travel across the US to most major markets for music and film some of the time. Doing this music thang, I have always asked the question, "What would I do if I had the chance to talk to a major producer? Would I be brave enough to let them know about my music aspirations without being a "pain in the butt"? Would I take that chance that so few would by telling her/him about my music and letting them listen to me?" Well, yesterday my words must of went to God's ear...
I worked a flight from Los Angeles to Nashville for most of this month and I asked this question again of myself. We had a delay and I had a chnace to meet a wonderfully nice woman who happened to bethe Director of Staffing for the West Coast for MTV She had asked me to hand a business card to a person on the flight and she let me know that she worked for MTV. I said to my self while handing the card to the other person, "God you have a AMAZING way of answering ones questions...Thank you."
I didn't want to hound her with questions as she was sitting watching a movie and I am working and in this business, I am not supposed to bug celebrities, but I would never forgive myself for letting an opportunity like this pass me by without saying anything, so after handing the person her card, I went to the back of the plane and prayed to God that an opportunity would present itself without me being a "pain" because I am sure she gets offers all the time from artists to listen to their music and such.
Like I said, God works in mysterious ways...
I was in the back of the aircraft after finishing our service to the passengers and she gets up to go to the back to go to the bathroom. Both stalls were full so she had to wait for a couple of minutes. This was my opportunity. Had to take it. We had small talk earlier, but nothing about music. I asked her what she did with MTV and she explained to me about her job. I then asked her if she would take the time to check out IACmusic.com and how it is the BEST indie music site anywhere and how great the artists are. Of course, I mentioned that I had a site here and I had just won a Golden Kayak for Best Indie Hip Hop/Rap Song. She congratulated me on my achievement and said for me to write down the site and my name and she would really take the time to check it out!!! She also said she loves to hear new music from new artists...I WAS ELATED!!!
Of course I was on cloud nine and I didn't bother her for the rest of the flight. Near the end of the flight, I was checking seat belts before landing and I thanked her and she said that she will REALLY come by IAC and check out the site and the music on my page...She stated that she works on the same floor as the music producers for MTV.
SO, Janet, if you are reading this...Thank You for being so nice and welcome to IAC!!! There are some truly great artists on this site. We feel we ARE the future of music, so sit back and enjoy all that we have here!!!

PS - I just have finished "The Secret" myself, and really have found some magical events occurring in my life, since then. I believe that there will be many more to come for you....:)
I have to admit, i had my doubts when I started reading it, but I really do think the concepts in this book, really ring true.

Not so new, just developed. Maybe a little too developed, but still.
It is useful.

Awesome stuff Slim!!! and well handled :)
I watched 'The Secret' recently and found myself recognising practically all of the concepts in it. In fact, these are all pretty much variations on my entire outlook on life at present. It is the mindset that is the success, not the results. The results are just a product of being successful :-D

Slim-------I'm proud of you man!
It would have been so easy to give it away, as being too difficult / too embarressing / too hard!!
-----even if nothing happens quickly, you have sown a seed-------we all have to look for these "oppurtunities" and recognise them as they flash past in our busy lives--

Thanks Robbie & Jo Ellen...Hopefully that "seed" that we all talk about for IAC will be planted. I'm just glad I fought my shyness and spoke to her. You all here at IAC have taught me so much. I just want the best opportunities for all on this site to be heard.
