Is the right to share independent music going to be finished off??? Read this !!
If this is true we are all going to lose our right to share our music....

I brought this up on the forum a few weeks back to a lukewarm response. I figured a music site would be all over this issue. Start publishing under a Creative Commons license, give listeners the right to do everything that this law forbids. ;)

The pdf of the actual wording of the act seems to have been removed...
could the media be trying to keep us Indies from finding out and acting on it?
I live in the United Kingdom now...so I no longer have a congressman to
speak of...wondering how I can help, as the RIAA and its collective cohorts
have done enough damage to artists' rights on their own to have taken
hundreds of millions of dollars, pounds, (read in your local currency) out
of the pockets of the artist collective community! I definitely do not want
this to happen...what if I am forced to place my hypnosis audio into this
projected DRM format? It would be the end of me as a hypnotist, at least
as far as letting it out for the public at large to hear!

I have the text of the bill posted on me page hypnogoddess.
As for what you can do...perhaps one of your discs and a large sound system parked outside the Capitol might do the trick.

Naw, that doesn't seem to have anything to do with us .. they are talking about major label music .. that is a good thing for Indies I think, at least the way I read it .. :)

This cannot be allowed to happen!! I will take action, and contact my government representatives regarding this issue. I advise everyone, who cares about the freedom of our music, to do the same:)

Lana it's supported by the major labels yes but the law is to change ALL streaming sites to a DRM format (either WMA or Real Audio or maybe something new). Fact is kiddo that this is the US government telling all of us (not just americans) how they can listen to your music.
That is the common flaw of thought that people have when looking at the actions of a government. "No it won't effect me." but it will, especially if you stand back and just let it happen.
Take the Flag Protection Amendment, here is the government about to attempt to amend the constitution. They say it's about protecting the symbol of America, but it's not. It's about once again limiting our First Amendment rights to free speech by now telling us how we can speak.
It began with Clinton Democrats and "political correctness", it will end with common folks being jailed for thinking for themselves. It's already happening in the Muslim community.
WWIII is a war not fought with weapons of destruction, but it is being fought with ideology. The battle lines are being drawn...where do you stand?
