Poems for Road Home Rescue
I started this over at myspace in a poets group, got nil response, so if you could write something I thought we could present these to Zeke at the shelter some time soon, please write something on the theme of abandonment or rescue, thanks, Maria xx
For Road Home
It was dark,
And when he threatened punches
The dog knew
Before I saw them coming.
How often?
I forget.
I just know the furniture
Was in the way,
And my heart
Was open
When it should have been
Closed.
Nobody told me the dog could get out too
So I stayed
And we both had it coming.
Two renegades
With no cause,
Only the need to
Survive,
One war.
One packet of cigarettes
And a bag of dog chews
Between us,
An empty suitcase.
We walked,
No regrets.
