Dear all,
here is great news from our friend Kathie Sullivan-Parkes -
From Kathie -
This is the Fozzie Bear quilt. Fozzie was born in a Puppy Mill in OH and a lovely lady from Pittsburgh, PA named Deb rescued him at a very young age. Sadly, on Nov. 29th, Fozzie died in his rescuer's arms. He came to her a prisoner of greed, from someone who had no heart. The (sad) irony is, Fozzie died because his heart was too big. Hundreds of thousands of puppies are born in Puppy Mills every year and many end up in pet stores. Most have health issues or defects due to lack of veterinary care, good food and clean living conditions. If you've never heard of a puppy mill, go to any search engine and look them up. The results are staggering.
In April, I asked the lovely and talented singer/songwriter, Maria Daines of the UK if she would do a song to pay tribute to Fozzie and perhaps help us get the message out about Puppy Mills. On May 5th, with the help of her wonderful man, Paul, her voice singing about the horrible mills and Fozzie's death hit the internet and everyone cried.
This months quilt is to benefit Deb who works tirelessly week after week going to these disgusting places to save as many as she can. She drives thousands of miles a week and never asks for anything in return. She has rescued and vetted each angel and finds good homes for them for a nominal fee. This fee can never re-coup what she pays out for medical and transportation. Fozzie's picture along with the words from Maria's song is on the quilt. Maria has given permission for this and I am honored to be able to not only pay my own tribute to Fozzie and all the other precious Angel's still stuck in Puppy Mills, but also to help Deb so she can continue to do the wonderful work she does.
This quilt is a one of a kind and hand made by me personally because to me, Fozzie's death was personal. It measures 30 X 38 and is in tones of burgundy, green and sand. The backing is a tone on tone sand colored paisley.
I want to thank Deb for all she does, Maria and Paul for their wonderful song and allowing me to add it to the quilt, and also to a wonderful woman named Terri in Atlanta GA who without her help, I would never have been able to get the pictures clear, centered and on this quilt. She did a great job and knew how important and special this one was for me and was very patient with me.
I'm hoping you will consider bidding on this quilt not only to help Deb continue her never ending struggle to save the prisoners of greed, but also to help keep Fozzie Bears memory alive.
Dog quilt for Rescue, fighting Puppy Mills
Kathie Sullivan-Parkes
Until you have looked into the eyes of a senior dog and learned their wisdom,
held a sick or injured dog in your arms and felt their pain, and had your face smothered in sloppy kisses from a puppy .... and smiled, you can't possibly know the life of a rescuer.
We find beauty in the most incomprehensible places and the otherwise homely faces.
It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, sadness and defeat and find the true soul that lies within.
We are Rescue.

Never be afraid to do in our hearts what we feel to be right especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake.
Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.
