They were great, too bad they could not have gotten a bit of a better crack at the big time, raw and explicit, rocking shxt kickers The Raw, Raucous, and Short-Lived Life of the MC5

The biggest mistake the MC5 made was having John Sinclair for their manager. They were just young SW Detroit slicksters and like Wayne Kramer one time said, they all had FBI files on them before they were old enough to vote. (Not a good way to get your music career off to a good start..)
Never saw them Scott, they were the house band at the Grande Ballroom but I was still on the farm during their era. I met several people who did see them back in the day (inc Russ Gibb) and they had nothing but great things to say about them.
These are a few of the other bands that played the Grande Ballroom...
"The Grande Ballroom in Detroit was a premier 1960s rock venue, hosting legendary acts like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Cream, Pink Floyd, and Janis Joplin. Known as a "temple of rock 'n' roll," it served as the home venue for the MC5 and hosted artists such as The Stooges, Grateful Dead, Jeff Beck, and Chuck Berry."

These guys had enormous potential, booze & drugs put that to an end though. Saw them at the West Side Six and they were the biggest Detroit band at that time. Too bad it ended the way it did. RIP David Gilbert.

One band that certainly should've made the bigtime is Sully who were one of the early bands on this site. I bought their first record on eBay for 1 penny and it's the best indie album I heard in my life, they should've been as big as Nirvana. another is the great Sugarplum Fairies.

I thought Sutrobath made some great music and and Ron Wasserman/Kathy Fisher should have gone on to bigger things, to bad it didn't happen.
The best artists never make it in this industry, that's the sad reality.
