A part of the history of the song « Oriental Christmas »
I discover with pleasure the presence of the track « Oriental Christmas » on the Kiac hitline and it deserved that I tell you a part of the history of this song that I had composed for my band EDHELS.
The year 1983 we were contacted by the American Major Label A&M that wanted to sign us a contract of production because they had listened to a demo with 10 tracks and 3 of these tracks had captured their attention. We were delighted and very proud because we were the first French artists about to sign a contract with (at this time) the biggest American Major company (they had Police, Dire straits, Brian Adams, Supertramp etc...). We had an appointment in the Parisian offices of this Major company . In some days we met the director of A &M for France, then the director for Europe arrived from Amsterdam and finally the general director who came directly from L.A to meet us. We were as in a dream. We have sign publishing contracts for the 3 tracks and left to record in a big studio close to Paris. A director came to see us and told me "you should write an original music for Christmas " I said Ok... but some weeks later (for our biggest disarray) the French unit of A&M was closed by the American direction for economic reasons and the contract of production has never been signed definitely. At this moment I had already write the song « Oriental Christmas » and we decided to self-produce our first album and to give it the title of this song.
