Okay, now the title of this song is right on point. It immediately felt kind of "other worldly" and spacey. The addition of the classical singer is a great concept for this song. It fit right into the sound scape. Of course, I had to go check out the video. It gave me a distinct and familiar urge to smoke a fatty and trip. Good work Paul!
Much Respect!

This is really nice Paul - funny I have a similar project lined up with a classical singer as well - same outer space wave length I guess!

Thank you for your kind words. It was bit of a mind job to get the classical singer to sit tight in the mix. Next up is a collab with Ecut

I can imagine - I sent the video to the singer I'm working with - she was wondering were the vocals in German? or just random syllables? it sounds great though - my tune is called Heavenly Bodies- the tune is all set and pretty much arranged and rough mixed, just have to get the singer in the studio. Got any clues on recording? She has amazing projection which I think probably has to just not happen when we record the vocal track.

Not sure what to recommend without knowing how or where you plan to record it. I never have two mixes the same due to the nature of the way i make my music. I would be willing to help

Thanks Paul - I appreciate! It's just a simple one room studio - carpet on the floor, but no soundproofing, really - pretty decent Rode mics, Tascam 24 track board, audio or digital recording to Logic Pro software ... I'm mainly wondering where you placed the singer when you did the vocal tracks. I want all the richness of the voice (mezzo sop) but I'm not sure how to set the recording levels without them going through the roof ... in the end I guess the best thing is just to start recording and see what happens haha - but if you had any tips from having done it yourself, that would be good info. I love the sound you got with Sputnik from outer space. Again thanks and the Shoe City is available if you ever need help with anything :)

What i would do was not use the studio and find a big space with a natural reverb. And have a stereo mic setup with one for close and an ambiance mic further away to catch all the natural reflections of the room recorded into separate channels. Use headphones for the singer so there is not so much spillover into the mics and play with distances for the mics until you get acceptable levels for both. I use a laptop and a Kore 1 audio interface for recording in situations like this no power required :).

Some great ideas! Laptop would be ideal, but I'm limited by the iMac plugged into the studio wall. But I think I could adapt by snaking wires outside the studio (with the door shut) to the adjacent space which is definitely bigger and emptier. Then we could definitely experiment around with the double mics and distances from the singer. Again thanks - I'm psyched to try it out.
