instruments: new acoustic piano not that much for a piano really but new at 5400 rhodes 88 around 3600 and a synth roland around 3200 and a house at 210000 in 1996

21000 for a piano does it have sat nav and a v12 engine. I see musical instruments as utiltarian . Still i see what you mean never played a grand piano. Played it as a plugin but never the real thing

my home, $450,000 Most recently? Yamaha YTS-26 Tenor Sax $2.500.00. Plus I have about $80.000.00 worth of gear well, at least that is what I have it insured for.

I try not to remember what I spent on stuff throughout the years but I was always able to get the gear I needed to do get the job done. I tend to do a lot with a little!
Sometimes I try to imagine how much money I could have saved had I not devoted my life to music. I often ask myself: was it worth it? But regardless of the answer -
I didn't choose music - music chose me. I became a willing servant to the cause.
Music saved my life. What price can be put on that? I don't mean that it saved me from death but it saved me from a life of boredom and meaningless labor. In some ways a life without purpose is worse than death. I found my purpose but it didn't come cheap. Money can't buy happiness but it can buy the tools you need to do your thing.

Yeah Richard got it. well said my friend. I prefer acoustic piano any day. all the other stuff is fine, but I rather perform live at the keys

I have a Warwick bass, too. Love the tone. Seems like it was 700 not 400 for me.
But that’s not the most expensive I’ve paid. I bought my Gibson j100 acoustic for 1500. I bought my ‘68 Les Paul for only 300 in the late 80s. I think it could sell for maybe three thousand.
One of the very best things I ever bought is this AKG c 414 b-uls microphone for 600 I’ve had for a few months now ( haven’t posted anything I’m doing with it yet). If I could go back in time to change what I bought, I’d buy that first. It makes getting the sound I want so easy, so rich and right. I don’t think all my gear could even be 10,000, and that’s bought over decades, but I should have got the c414 first. All my recording would have been easier and much better.

I got the bass 5 string corvette extremely cheap i never bartered either as thats what the seller was asking i was pretty blown away thought the seller was nuts. Still had the original box and tags. I also did the same as you bought a high end fender bass in the 80,s for 325 now it is worth a couple of grand. To me that is subjective why would you sell when you know you are going to regret as soon as the buyer walks out of the door. I never sell instruments i made songs with anyway.
I have a Shure Sm 85 microphone truly wonderful piece of kit bought in the 90,s for 60. First of the phantom powered 80,s series. I used the 85 for all me and Craigs songs. Does it all though stage or studio. I agree with you a good mic is what you need to start. Not the kind of thing you think on when your first starting learning music. That your best asset is your voice and it was free. It,s kinda taken for granted even though it has more expressive range than any instrument. Instruments don't make music people do. Instruments are only worth big sums if the owner can master it and realise that instruments potential. Which many on here do and more
