No, you can't buy individual downloads of our songs.. you MUST buy the entire crappy album... Or so says Jermaine Dupri and Jay Z

Thoughts on this strategy people? I mean, I guess it's ok if every album out there was Abbey Road or Thriller, but the truth is, a lot of albums have one or two good songs, and a lot of filler.

DISCUSSSSSSS......

In my case he didn't hurt his cause, because I wasn't buying any of his singles either. :D

Ummm. yeah I would like the option to say no thanks to a few songs on most albums. It's tough because the cd market is dwindling (or so I hear). Maybe it's like any monopoly (i.e. if you are Jay Z)- if you control what people want or think they need than make 'em pay. Hopefully, what is happening is that recording artists are taking the time to produce better music (not just one or two songs). On the other hand, options are frustrating because they make me rethink everything in which I have ever invested time, money , or effort. Ignorance is bliss... knowledge can be costly. Let's face it...if we didn't know any better many of us would still be purchasing cds no problem. Peace. :)

Hahaha - now there's confidence in a product!!!
What they're saying is "my album includes songs that no-one will ever buy unless they are forced to or suckered into it" - it's just another major-label ploy.

Larry as usual you said what I wanted to say, only a lot louder. I come from the days when singles were for teenyboppers only. Adults and serious music lovers bought albums. An album meant something. There was a specific order to the songs that made the whole greater than the sum of its parts. There was a sleeve that had beautiful artwork, big enough to look at. I covered my dorm room wall with all my favorites. I bought a few records that only had one or two good songs on them, but I've never wished I had only bought those one or two songs.

I have trouble with the way IAC works, too. It took me a long time to feel comfortable with the concept of removing our songs from the context of their intended groupings and sequences. But hey - I want people to hear them and nobody's buying our cd's so I guess I'm getting with the times.

I miss records. *sigh*

"The trouble with videos is we're going to end up making music that looks good, not music that sounds good," said Frank Zappa. But videos don't HAVE TO be bad, Frank just understood human nature, Larree.

"You'll never go broke underestimating the public" (have I ever mentioned that?:) so -- of course most videos are crap as are most movies, most books, most magazines, most newspapers, most TV and most popular music.

As far as missing THE ALBUM, Stegor. Yes there were some neat concept albums in ye olde days but I also remember a lot of nonsense -- psychedelic artwork with pathetic blues cliches inside, etc, etc, etc. Who was that Dean (??) dude -- everybody had to have a cover done by him at one point (y'know the Yes albums)????

I like the single toon idea. If it's a concept group of toons make sure it's promoted as such, because that's good too.
