**** Everything 80's ****
I'm a self confessed lover of everything 80's. I was a teenager in the 80's and LOVED the music, the fashion (ra ra skirts, big hair, leg warmers with tights....yeah!!), the innocence and the freedom (no bills or rent to pay).
I was just replying to some comments on my Youtube page when I came across a link to one of my favourite 80's artists, Toyah Willcox and that inspired the creation of this thread.
So, if you are an 80's person at heart, share you r experiences and post your favourite clips here.
Here's the song that inspired this thread....

I just found Toyah's "I Want to be Free"'on Youtube too. That was so my theme song in the 80's and, well it still is if I'm honest!!!
The whole album 'Anthem' was just brilliant.
I just remastered the audio and cleaned up the video on the Youtube version of 'I Want to be Free' and re-uploaded it to www.indiemusicclips.com so here it is....

Prince was my Hero in the 80's...and I tried to convince every Michael Jackson-Fan, that I met. ;-) "Little Red Corvette" is one of my favourite Prince-Songs.

Nice one Bruce!
My friend Garth from Immaculata used an MC 303 and later, an MC 505 to write most of his songs. I think he still has it and probably used it on his newest stuff. I must ask him next time we catch up.
Diego,
I loved Prince too!! Little Red Corvette is a classic :-)
Who remembers ra ra skirts?
I still have my very first ra ra skirt!! I'll have to get it out and see if it still fits. Maybe I'll take a photo for this thread.

and here's a clip that I really liked (being a future teenager in the 80's):
True Faith (New Order)

I did not wear ra ra skirt, though, but rather a black coat since 1992 =;-)

...and Tim, who could forget New Order?!! :)
Here's a classic Aussie sketch from 1983. I still remember when this came out. I was in stitches the first time I heard it.

Although I was not a teenager in the 80s, my sister was. And so, I was exposed by osmosis to all of the styles and music. I love 80s rock and movies. I found the fun had a lot to do with the level of self expression that can occur when you can wear three pairs of sox and they don't necessarily have to match. Maybe a little indie spirit....

Thanks for the sketch vid, T. I have only a limited knowledge of Aussie culture (although I've been a fan of Paul Hogan since the late '70's and Aussie Rules Football since the '80's- a tie-in to the thread). Who was that guy? Fortunately, I'm familiar with a lot of the place names and the accent isn't too much 'trouble'.
"plaid-a-puss" - HA! I love word humour. I might have to see if I can find "Wet Dream" by Kip Adotta- it's from the '80's.
Music? - Early Oingo Boingo Boingo and early Simple Minds.

Steve,
The guy in the clip I posted calls himself Austen Tayshus. I don't know his real name. That was a classic sketch in Aussieland in the 80's and yeah, it relies on the viewer having a fairly solid knowledge of Aussie culture and geography.
I love the clip you posted. That is really clever. He actually sounds quite a lot like Bill Murray.
Oingo Boingo, there's a name I haven't heard for a long time...... and Simple Minds, I STILL love them!!!

Alive and Kicking is one of their very best songs in my opinion. It still sounds fresh and vibrant.

I understand, Sam. I felt the same way about the "Disco era". However, there's always something interesting going on- sometimes you just have to look a little harder for it.
I also agree about IAC- a great place to see, when emerging from whatever haze might envelope. Also, I wanted to say how much I've enjoyed your "Cool Adventures..." blog. I'm afraid I don't have anything nearly so amazing to relate, but I've gotten a lot out of the stories I've read.

Steve, I never really got into Simple Minds more obscure stuff. I was still creating what would inevitably become my indie roots back then!!
Sam, I understand your predicament. My big 'bong hit', so to speak, was the 90's grunge phase. I could never get into that. I went off on a tangent with Raves and big club nights with anthems like Gamemaster by Lost Tribe.
Slim, that is some classic 80's cheese there my friend!! ....and oh, the flashbacks with the fashion.... THAT'S cool :-)
One of my biggest teenage musical and cultural influences was definitely Madonna...
and Cyndi Lauper was another. As it turns out, one of my friends (Bec Thomas from the Mavis's) is good friends with Cyndi.

Top Gun, Footloose, Divinyls, love it all!!!
Chrissy Amphlett (Divinyls lead singer) is from my home town too.
