Anything from your archives?
Hi all,
A few days ago I posted about the possibility of hearing old recordings from years ago and how it's neat to hear where someone was both musically and technologically then. I just posted a song from 1995 that was recorded on a then state-of-the-art 4-channel multitrack cassette recorder. That sounds primitive by today's standards.
Anyway, this is kind of like going through an old photo album only with music. If you have something from yesteryear that you feel like posting, put a link here and share it!

Thanks, Scott. See, that's what I mean. Listen how different that sounds compared to what's coming out today. I love going back in time and listening to stuff we've left along the way. :)

A while back I posted an oldie from 1992:
Stop Hitting Me
It was recorded on a Tascam 244 4-track cassette. I cheated a little and ran it through my mastering software which cleared the mud but made it pretty harsh instead. Shoulda left it alone. The backing track was made by overdubbing several loops made with an Effectron Jr. digital delay. The bass and rhythm guitar are both going thru a vintage Small Clone chorus pedal, which I don't have anymore and recently found out it's worth about $400.00 because Cobain used one on Smells Like Teen Spirit and now it's highly sought after. I've since learned to hold onto every piece of musical equipment whether I like it or not.
I have some really old stuff I might think about posting someday, from the early '80's when we were rather experimental.
I think both your songs posted here sound pretty good. There's something about good old cassettes. I couldn't get Bruce's to load. I'm on my old computer.

Loren - I'm streaming your page right now with headphones on and this song just came on. I certainly hear what you're saying. Still, I've been listening to home grown music (besides my own) since the '80's and I've learned to appreciate what's behind the sometimes crummy recordings. This one has that real characteristic broken up sound of old oxide. Somehow I've grown to love genuine lo-fi for what it is, someone being resourceful and pushing the technology beyond it's normal range.
Beautiful stuff you're doing.

I love listening to this old stuff! It sure helps you put things in perspective hearing the musical journey we've all taken.
Greg, thanks for the kind words about my piece. :)
