News from the Rubrics
I've been on iac very little in the last few weeks and thought I should explain my disappearance to all my friends and acquaintances here. I haven't forgotten any of you!

Well, the long and short of it is that I had major abdomenal surgery a few weeks ago. My rountine colonoscopy found a growth in my transverse colon and while it always appeared to be benign, it looked as if it could eventually become malignant. Given that my younger sister died from colon cancer 5 years ago, I underwent surgery to have it removed. They removed a large section of my colon and resectioned it, leaving me with a large scar down my belly with two holes on either side. (If you squint it sort of looks like that symbol the Blue Oyster Cult used to place on its early albums.) The growth was fortunately benign and while I'm recovering pretty fast for a diabetic middle aged banjo player, it still is taking awhile. I went back to work this week but still can't lift anything over 10 pounds in weight. (this effectively means I'm techically not allowed to lift my banjo) I tire very, very easy and my colon hasn't figured out that its considerably shorter yet. But don't worry, I will be recording, playing and writing soon. the whole situation makes me appreciate life and music and the iac even more.

Wes
