UPDATE: Getting a CD made without breaking the bank
UPDATE: I just hit my target a few hours ago at Kickstarter.com. 66 backers have pledged a total of just over $3,000. So that means I get all the pledges (you have to hit your goal or you don't get any of it).
I've learned that in an Indie world, it pays to be as creative with the marketing/financing as it does with the creative work. It's the only way to get heard in a sea of albums (most of which sound pretty good with all the studio ear candy available now).
So I'd suggest you check out Kickstarter.com and see if it's something you want to try for your next project.

P.S. Here's the original post I put here about a month ago:
Hi Folks,
I've launched a campaign to get my second full-length CD, "Born A Genius" funded. Kickstarter is a about a year old and so far seems to be delivering the goods. It was written up in the New York Times last month and the article says so far they've had a 46% success rate.
Part of the pitch is making a video that lets potential backers know what you're about. We had fun making this one:
Today is Day One and I've brought in $100 so far. That's 3% of my target. So we'll see what happens. Wish me luck. And check out my project/pitch at: http://kck.st/bk3wXl
