wow ... look what i found:
Man vill bli älskad, i brist därpå beundrad, i brist därpå fruktad, i brist därpå avskydd och föraktad. Man vill ingiva människorna någon slags känsla. Själen ryser för tomrum och vill kontakt till vad pris som helst.
"One wants to be loved, failing that admired, failing that feared, failing that loathed and despised. One wants to give some sort of feeling to the people. The soul abhors emptiness and wants contact no matter the price."
cacoethes scribendi "bad habit of writing" From Juvenal. An insatiable urge to write.
in girum imus nocte et consumimur igni "We enter the circle at night and are consumed by fire" A palindrome said to describe the behavior of moths. Also the title of a film by Guy Debord.
me vexat pede "it annoys me at the foot" Less literally, "my foot itches". Refers to a trivial situation or person that is being a bother, possibly in the sense of wishing to kick that thing away.
mundus vult decipi "the world wants to be deceived" From James Branch Cabell.
pons asinorum "bridge of asses" Any obstacle that stupid people find hard to cross. Originally used of Euclid's Fifth Proposition in geometry.
sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc "we gladly feast on those who would subdue us" Mock-Latin motto of The Addams Family.
Sola lingua bona est lingua mortua "the only good language is a dead language" Example of dog Latin humor.
most of these from wikipedia.
(i was actually looking for the abbreviation for the phrase, in latin, "for which read." if anyone knows what it is, please end my torture and remind me. i know there is one, we used to use it all the time where i used to work. but then, we had to know things like "q.v." and "stet." "videlicet" is pretty close, i just thought it was letters.)
