I just finished the remake of Better Change Your Ways BEATLESEX version added.
Hi everyone
Yep, did a new version and just uploaded it. I didn't like the old that much so we'll see on this new version. Anyone that has this song on their station will be safe cause I just replaced the mp3 with the new one.
Anyone that wants to add it to their station, please do.
As always it's the top song on my page.

A subject I've personally dealt with recently.
Basically God 'convinced' me to quit drinking alcohol
and quit smoking pot. Just in time too.
I have to say, it's better this way. I make better records too.
So here's a link to Steve's new one, Folks.

Well, in my usual busy whirlwind, no honestly not yet.
But I tell you what, I will now, very shortly
right after some coffee...
and I will get back to you once I have. ~L

Okay, still haven't heard it yet,
believe me, you want me to have my coffee first....
Though I will already tell you, in terms of producing a stern lecture
for getting one's 'shit' together... you really ought to go the next mile
and provide the lyrics, so that the printed word, as well as the guy
on the phonograph is taking the listener to task, especially,
in the event it was words they long needed to hear---and see before their eyes.
Tell you what I think of the song, and the recording, shortly.

Here are the words.... :)
Better Change Your Ways
You think everybody plays your game
You make all the rules and you just won’t change
Live is way too short my friend
Better change your ways no while you can.
It’s a situation, I don’t wanna know
It’s a destination, I don’t wanna go
It’s a combination, I don’t wanna see and I don’t wanna know
What you do, and where you go.
It’s time that you looked around
Open up your eyes put your ear to the ground
It’s all right there for you to see
Choose the right path and set yourself free
It’s a situation, I don’t wanna know
It’s a destination, I don’t wanna go
It’s a combination, I don’t wanna see and I don’t wanna know
What you do, and where you go.
It’s time to look deep in your soul
Good is good bad is bad I’m told
I can’t tell you what to do
Just remember to yourself be true.
It’s a situation, I don’t wanna know
It’s a destination, I don’t wanna go
It’s a combination, I don’t wanna see and I don’t wanna know
What you do, and where you go.

Oh Jesus.
Let me not get girlish and tell you that was cute.
In Your Admin, Steve....
Go to 'edit song'....
find where the lyrics go....
and put them There...
much as I appreciate you putting them here.
It's there, you need to put them.
God already had 'the talk' with me.
This is for those who may yet need to hear it.
Also, I'm writing a more detailed response here...
give me a moment for that.
|
|
|
3/2/2016 5:43:14 AM
Yes. I've just checked...
some of your songs do in fact have lyrics written out.. that's good...
a lot of them however don't....
all my new releases (this is just what I do, my criteria if you will, you do
ultimately as you see fit) I put the lyrics with, as a rule.
The only time I don't, is if I'm re-releasing an old record,
and for one reason or another, simply decide not to be bothered.
And that's a flaw basically, because I should, if it's worth posting,
it's worth posting the lyrics to. I'll call myself out on that.
but you have another, for instance,
about 'don't give in' or 'don't give up'
or some sort of message
to the point of 'hang in there, don't quit on us'
and that also, really begs the lyrics to be present.
Or I just implored you to do so on the song, and listener
who may be at the end of their rope and need to SEE
as well as hear those words, so please add the lyrics....
certainly to that one... and really....
that's a good rule of thumb,
it doesn't mean I'm going to go back
and add lyrics to old songs I've re-released,
probably would if you said to me,
"Lesley, what are the lyrics to so and so..."
because at that point, someone would have asked about it...
Anyway, let me finish my other post,
because there was another thing I was saying...
|
|
|
3/2/2016 5:46:36 AM
Well. Okay.
Good song, you have a nice voice.
I don't suppose you'd be at all amenable to
the notion and concept of my band BEATLESEX
doing a version of this particular song?
I'll let you know ahead of time,
I need to do this, the last guy I was gonna go ahead
and cover a record of with the band,
took exception to the very idea
that I may wanna add elements
which we could hear as 'needs to be in there'....
...he didn't like that, not saying who,
not about to, but suddenly it became uncomfortable
and I said 'nevermind'.
I still think you should make the lyrics readable,
which means, type 'em.
Sorry if my blunt style of speaking is annoying,
I've been pointed towards that it sometimes is,
and yet, well I gotta be me.
Not every song really needs needs to have the lyrics posted,
but as this is a song telling people who may potentially
need to hear it, 'hey, clean up your act while you still can'
(a thing I myself needed to be told by God, very LOUDLY, but it worked)
well it totally should have the lyrics for people to read,
I urge you to do that immediately.
As for the idea, of BEATLESEX covering your song,
you may go for it, you may not.
Here are my terms, I'll start there, because that's the best
place for me to start. It's totally okay if you tell me it's a 'no go'.
I tell you my terms, you tell me yours if you have any...
if I still wanna do it, we go from there, if not, no harm no foul.
Okay, I've covered the basic lecture to you,
and even myself where re-releasing old songs are concerned,
and perhaps from now on I will make a point of that...
noting a basic principle,
that if a song is worth posting,
and has lyrics in it sung,
then the lyrics are also worth posting, and should be.
Anyway....
if you are okay, with our band, BEATLESEX,
taking your song, and basically doing it
anyway we feel like it,
which in this case, I can tell you,
would be to come up with a chorus,
because outside some sort of a saxophone refrain,
it basically doesn't have one that we could identify as a chorus,
well if you'll give us the leeway to do our version of your song, our way,
then we will give further consideration to actually doing that.
If not, again, no harm no foul.
Work we do not have to do, turns out very easy.
Nice work. Keep on rockin'.
~L

Yes, Steve.
That was kinda cute.
Now be a good fellow, and post them, actually ON your song.

3/2/2016 5:57:45 AM
Thanks for the comments and everything else L. :)
You or anyone can do any of my songs you want to.
The chorus is this part.
It’s a situation, I don’t wanna know
It’s a destination, I don’t wanna go
It’s a combination, I don’t wanna see and I don’t wanna know
What you do, and where you go.
Anyhow yes I usually put the words to my songs but there is so little traffic here I shelved it for another time.
Thank you
Steve

---- Updated 3/3/2016 7:54:05 PM
Okay.
Well, first, you're very welcome.
It's nice to be appreciated.
Now, let me advise you,
assume not 'little traffic',
and instead, anticipate, lots of traffic.
Just, learn to think that way.
You're going to get more traffic, right there,
with us doing a version of your song.
Oh, yes, I remember those words,
but it wasn't quite what we heard as a 'chorus',
it still needs an additional refrain,
but as you're okay with it seemingly, we'll figure out what that is,
and do it that way....
Now, I figure that we shall do this fairly soon
not necessarily the next record or even the one after that,
depends on how many ideas stacked up we have....
(we're busy little bees over here)
but once we do,
well we'll put it out....
Once we've put it out,
you may, if you want, you understand,
put our version out, on your page, if you like....
We covered a song of Lyin' Dan's,
and he put out our version as well on his page.
In Dan's case, he sells the downloads.
I notice, you do not, which is okay,
less terms to discuss.
Oh, I will tell you,
that the version,
as it will be released on the BEATLESEX site,
will be soon available for sale,
Now.
As I say,
don't assume 'so little traffic'....
If we do your song, that'll give you a bump right there...
and in general, remember that you're doing this for people to enjoy....
and be also mindful of, 'they just might'.
So Dare To Think Big, Steve.
is what I'm saying.

That's fine L
Do what you want with it. Sell copies if you want as long as my name appears as the writer I don't care about anything else. I don't sell my music anywhere and I don't see that changing soon but do what you want. :)
Steve
|
|
|
3/2/2016 7:28:39 AM
Yes, your name would absolutely be in the writer's credits,
and actually, even if I have technically composed a 'new part' to it,
I will not take a writer's credit. It'll just be your name
and your name alone there. It's my interpretation,
of the thing you created, even if you didn't hear it there,
the fact that I did, is an admission that somehow it was implied by you,
to begin with... and if I heard it before you did, whatever, it's still yours.
Not to worry, Steve.

Okay. Now.
Copy and Paste,
the lyrics, into your 'edit song' part of your admin,
in the section where the lyrics go,
you've posted lyrics before, not a lot but you've done it,
so, you know how to do it....
because when I get to the process of absorbing
the song, it involves me listening to it over and over and over again.
And it's easier for me, to do that,
if the lyrics are there with it...
copy and paste, like so...
Better Change Your Ways
You think everybody plays your game
You make all the rules and you just won’t change

It’s a situation, I don’t wanna know

Steve, one more thing....
email me,
put "From Steve White" in the subject line....
This way, I have your email address at the ready,
once it's time to send you a copy of the MP3 file,
which I will do, so that you may release our version,
on your page, if you so desire.
Which is what Lyin' Dan did,
he has his version of Ocean Of Love,
he also has our version, BEATLESEX's version,
of "Ocean Of Love" on his site.
So, since now we're leaning towards actually
doing this in the not to distant future,
just drop me a quick line,
"okay here's my email address..." is sufficient....
this will make it easy to mail you the mp3
when we've gotten that far,
also, in the event I have questions, I can ask them
easily enough, without having to do it all here.
and same goes if you have any...

Hey Steve,
Wondering what your comment "so little traffic here" means? Do you have other sites you are on that generate more traffic. I know about facebook. bandcamp. soundclick reverbnation etc. I would be interested to know if there are other sites you have been more successful on. As an artist increasing exposure is always good.

Well ken, I get more action elsewhere then here with regards to fans, spins and acknowledgement to my songs, there are many other places where my tunage is and where people check my vibe out. We do have a good place at IMP, but lets realize, some will get more recognition and bumps of action so to speak then others, it is just that way man

Hi Ken
I have over 1,000 friends on FB and I have a ReverbNation page too.
I've been I the local top 10 on RN for over a year now. When it slips I just post a few songs on FB and get my rating back. I have a Twitter account too but most of my song plays come from FB. It took a long time to get the FB people to even play one of my songs so not easy.

Thank you Steve and Byron,
I've done remakes of a few of my songs and find the process interesting. Congrats on your remake Steve. I think it shows you have flexibility as an artist to be able too look at it and re-do it takes guts. Some people say when a song is done its done and that may be true sometimes but since I know my "talent" is mediocre at best I always look for ways to improve on things I have done in the past or am doing now.

I am not sure if it means anything really getting to the top echelon of anywhere anymore on the internet scene music wise. I see I am #1 regional and top ten in Canada for Classical on reverbnation, and have been up there for years, a long time, but is it meaningful, not likely. really what counts to me, is this, am I making any money and that is where it is at for me, and yes I am. but on real radio terrestrial fm and am some internet radio as well from my last SOCAN payout, but not sure how this place works for paying out anything in royalties , when in fact I guess there should be something, but unlikely will ever be.
my thing is, it is nice to have soundcloud, reverbnation facebook,IMP but is it really meaningful, guess if someone likes your tunage i suppose, we have a nice community here of course and i appreciate the opportunity I have had over the last 8 years to work my chops , learn and get feedback , listening to the top flight musicians here and elsewhere, it has helped me immensely as well as promoting artists for the past 15 years, i have learned a lot in the whole buisness of music as well as making music, mostly instrumentals, thats my bag man, always will be, but is instrumental appreciated here, not so much, that is the unfortunate thing, we in the instrumental end will never get much love here, it is not set up that way, and that is just fine, no biggie,
As for promoting others, well i think that part of my life in helping others is essentially over for the most part, time to focus on me . i enjoy making music, right now I have a world class horn player, award winner, one of the best players in Canada working with me on a few tunes, i expect the songs to do well, since his name is well known here, that will draw some attention from Jazz radio and CBC, and once I have finished the tracks, the songs will go to CDBABY and itunes. where i have got downloads and royalties as many of you have.
So I want money, I want to make good listening music, and there is a good market for instrumental music, good melodic tunes, that is something i know how to do, very very well
cheers and all the best to IMP, I hope for better days and to see some better opportunities for making money, with value added opportunities, advertising from other places, so the organization can stay afloat and not just survive but become a thriving and strong established entity that can offer artists not only a place to have their music, interact in blogs but perhaps even make some cash some day
some of you have, I am sure. but i know mine is made elsewhere, not here
good luck to you all.

Thats great Steve, I feel the same way, but the cash is a bonus, how about that. for the joy of making music, it is not about the money, the money is a residual thing and an artist should be getting something more then a like on facebook. or a top ten on reverbnation, honestly, I dont put very much credence in that at all. It is like someone walking into a art shop, seeing some paintings that someone spent hundreds of hours on, or less or more, and gaining some sense of appreciation for the picture, but do they think of the artist, the one who labored doing the work . not much and not likely. will they buy the painting, not at all. but there it is hanging on the wall. much like the songs here, they are hanging on the wall, and then what. who listens, very few

I've learned from experience, that posting songs on online music sites
like FB, Reverbnation, Soundcloud, IMP and others, or even YouTube,
is not a money producing tactic. For the most part people just want
to listen to music but not necessarily want to purchase when there
are so many ways to obtain the songs for free.
Lately I had noticed many artists now only upload clips of their songs,
usually from :30 to :60 seconds of song, so if a listener really enjoys it they'd have to pay to download it. Or buy the actual hard copy of recording.
That's how it is at iTunes, clips only.
Maybe that's what I should do as well.
But to those in this just to produce music out of their passion for it and release free to the general public, that is their choice. Not in it for the money.

And that is unfortunate, Jay, with the onset of a million plus artists scrambling and looking to make music, it has diluted the quality and the opportunity to make a buck, that is the truth. it is what it is, and who gains, not you, me but a few, but who really gains are the reverbnations soundclouds where ever pandering to the multitudes who think they have something special. the big music players like RN and SC or others are pulling in the big bucks, it is a money making venture, and nothing wrong with that. it is a crazy F**ked up world man, being in the biz for so long and dealing with musicians, djs radio, i have seen a lot of changes, some good things over the last 15-20 years and some not so good

I guess I am in your boat Steve. I have a few fans. Probably you could count them on one hand. I am never really happy with the songs I make. I get a version that sounds good enough for public ears then refine, it rehash it. I always hear something "I could have done this or that better"
I don't post songs on facebook and sound cloud yet as I had read from multiple sources that the material needs to be close to commercial ready for that. I am far away from that level. I had a reverbnation page but never really got any attention even with my professionally produced songs. So I linger here in a community can accept it for what it is an artist growing in process.
Congrats on your remake I think that its cool that you are willing an open enough to do so.

It's ok
I was just wondering.
I have a few of my songs I plan on doing over. Sounds of the Sea for one. I already have a pretty good version going on my iPad and just need to refine it but yes I think the new one will sound better.
Run, Run Away is another one I'm doing over and that one is really close.
Hey, it costs me nothing to do a song over except time and I have plenty of that.
If I was still playing out live? Yes I would have my songs for sale but for me I'm a writer so I'm really looking for bands that would want to play it my way or theirs an of course the credit for writing the songs.
I've played in a lot of Bands and all kinds of styles. My last Band was a Blues Band and I played Bass. It was a three piece Band so no room for error there.
I'm self taught on every instrument I play or played but I think I do best on the Bass. But I love playing just about any instrument.
This site? For me is a Musicians hang out. Another reason I don't sell especially here. How can I ask other starving Musicians to buy my songs? I just can't do that. That being said I definitely love to hear comments from Musicians more than a listener because of the obvious reasons.
Anyhow, I had a root canal this morning and I have to go find the friggin Advil. I'll check back in a bit.
Nice discussion though.

Steve, your last reply was like reading My own thoughts!
I have reached a point in my life where I record and release songs
with the hopes that a major artist(s) or an up & rising artist(s)
listen to my song(s) and decide to cover it!
As a self-described mediocre singer myself, I always felt many of my songs
have Hit potential if performed and/or sung by a well-known (and more polished) singer and/or band!

Better Change Your Ways
You think everybody plays your game
You make all the rules and you just won't change
Life is way too short, my friend
Better change your ways now, while you can
It's a situation, I don't wanna know
It's a destination, I don't wanna go
It's a combination, no, I don't wanna see
And I don't wanna know,
What you do now and where you go now
Bet-bet-bet-better-better
Change, Change Change
Better change your ways
Hear what I say
Change, Change, Change
You better change your ways
It's time that you looked around
Open up your eyes, put your ear to the ground
It's all right there for you to see
Choose the right path, and set yourself free!
It's a situation, I don't wanna know
It's a destination, I don't wanna go
It's a combination, no, I don't wanna see
And I don't wanna know,
What you do now and where you go now
Bet-bet-bet-better-better
Change, Change Change
Better change your ways
Can you hear what I say?
Change, Change, Change
You better change your ways
~Guitar
It's time to look deep within your soul
Good is good, bad is bad, don't you know
I can not tell you what to do, now
Though I might mention;
To thine own's elf be true
It's a situation, I don't wanna know
It's a destination, I don't wanna go
It's a combination, no, I don't wanna see
And I don't wanna know,
What you do now and where you go now
Bet-bet-bet-better-better
Change, Change Change
Better change your ways
Can you hear what I say?
Change, Change, Change
You better change your ways....

Again, it was an honor, Steve. That's one Great Song you have there.
And I did it with a little help from my friends.
As I may have mentioned (but I'm not sure, I'm old and forgetful now,
so I'll mention it again) ten years ago,
John Lennon's boyhood friend came to our home
(back when my wife was alive, and we had a home and everything)
and saw that it actually is John Lennon whom I channel.
Pete said this to John:
"You bastard.
You knew.
You knew didn't you.
You knew that if I saw you work, I'd know it's you"
Lennon then laughed and said,
"I've only been trying to tell you that for two f***in' Years, Shotton!"
So, with no more ado than that,
here is John and George in their own words. About your song.
Thank you again, Steve. God Bless, Much Love, ~Lesley

Okay, Hello. This is John.
I just want to say that it IS a fantastically f***in' good song, mate,
and we're glad to do it. And I got to sing leadfoot vocal on it too, not bad.
Here's George to talk about the bits he did. Thanks again, mate.
~John
---------------------------------------------------
Hello, this is George speaking.
Well I very much enjoyed making this record as well.
It's perfectly rock n roll bluesy, very easy to find a riff to
and ride it into the sunset as it were. Also enjoyed doing
the back-up vocal bits which we thought worked quite nicely on this...
that's four part harmony you know, from left to right,
it's me, John, Lesley, and also Lesley. She's a showoff, and deserves to be.
Thank you.
~George

Well
I sure hope some of the other Musicians here give this a listen Lesley.
It's really good. It's a great thing for me to hear another Band or Musician do one of my songs justice. It's exactly what I'm looking for.
Really peeps.. Check it
Thanks again Lesley
