I have questions about Number One Music
Hello Everyone
So I don't want to say any names here but a friend of mine has been getting rave reviews from a site called Number One Music.
According to the sites stats, there songs are at number one locally and 16 World Wide.
How can this be?
Is the site scamming them and trying to get money or do you think the site is legit?
If it is a scam, how would I tell a good friend this without hurting his feelings?
Or should I just let it be?

I'm on that site, too.
And I keep getting all these rave reviews from "users" who are very attractive young females, encouraging me to put more of my music up on the site, so they can hear it.
Also, I happen to be at #1 in a few genres and areas, too.
If it's not an outright scam, it's at least not totally legit.
If your friend is about to give them $$, you should probably warn him. If not, let him enjoy his moment and then figure it out for himself. No harm if there ain't no harm.

That site is a scam site and I proved it many years ago. The hits he is getting are all bogus. None of it is real. Just another rip off site trying to lure musicians in for a monthly fee. They start out by giving you a bunch of bogus listeners and steadily moving your music up the charts. Then, they hit you with a service fee that will supposedly get you further along into stardom. All of their stats, comments and everything is all fake. They have people on their staff doing that. Tell your friend that he is being played. Tell him to send a message to all of his followers and see how many of them respond. My guess is that it will be a fat zero. They don't really exist.

Isn't that illegal?

If it was illegal to exploit indie artists with bullshit scams, most of the sites would be out of business.

A long time ago I created a band and solo artist page at that site and would get exactly the same notifications and messages for each at the same time. Made it pretty clear that something fishy was going on almost immediately.

Well, I did tell him everything that was said here. He doesn't put any money into the site so I'm happy about that.
He is in denial about the place though cause he said that when he replies to the so called bots they answer him.
I didn't take it any further.

Steve, I have created pages for my band GALLEON on a number of music websites, including Number One Music. Quite frankly I don't know whether any of these websites could be considered "legitimate" or not. My advice to all is not to invest any money in them, because you never know whether or when these websites will disband, leaving you parted from your investments. But I figure that as long as my band partners and I don't have to pay for having pages on these sites, there's really nothing to lose and everything to gain in terms of the proverbial "exposure."
According to the stats I've seen, my band's page on the Number One Music site has garnered over 51,000 song plays and over 56,000 profile views. It is further indicated that we rank #3 for rock in Georgia and #49 for rock worldwide. So I figure we must be doing something right! On the other hand, I get frustrated ... we have over 51,000 song plays on our page but I cannot even get 51 people to come out and see/hear us perform live when we get a booking! What's wrong with this picture!?
So again, I advise all musical acts to proceed with caution. As long as you don't have to spend any money to start and maintain a page on any of these sites, by all means upload your music and see what response you get. I don't know how much it will help, but I don't think it hurts any. But do not pay any money for so-called "Professional" or "VIP" status on these sites, because I believe that is a waste of your money. You may get certain additional privileges on these sites with that status, but I doubt whether it's worth the fees they're charging. Best wishes to all aspiring musicians; always show people your best work and strive for improvement!
Rock on,
Elliott Michaels for GALLEON!

Thanks Elliott
Wasn't for me. I don't play out live so have no interest in those sights anyhow.
It was a friend of mine but he said he wasn't putting any money into that site so I was glad to hear that.
Oh! Like the name of your Band too!
