Draw me, quarter me, but don't take away my CD player...
I'm so ashamed....
I just went out and dropped almost $45 on 3 new CDs. What? you say? That's no big deal. People spend that kind of money on CDs all the time right? Well......here's the thing. These are the 3 CDs I bought....

1. Winger -- Winger
2. White Lion -- Big Game
3. Cinderella -- Rocked, Wired & Bluesed: Greatest Hits

OK OK.....go ahead. I can hear you all laughing now. That's fine. I can take it. Yes, my heroes are the usual legends....Led Zeppelin, Free, Pink Floyd, et al. But let me just say. Give me a man in Spandex, big hair and a falsetto to make yer granny weep and I'm there every time baby. I LOVE 80's hair metal!!!

I lied.....I'm not ashamed. I'm f****in' ROCKIN'!!

Have a LOVELY evening y'all.....

".......somebody saaaaave me.....I lost my job, they kicked me outta my tree...somebody saaaaave me".

try this on for size:

i have 2 out of the 3 you mention on vinyl - YES vinyl, and basically, i have the 3rd on vinyl = Night Songs. All of Cinderella's best songs were basically off of Night Songs anyhow. plus, i saw 2 out of the 3 you mention live at same show.

yah, well, before i got old and bald, i aspired to be one of them big hair guitar players. opened for Slaughter and Great White mind you. not sure what name dropping 80's bands does for a my current music career (or lack of).... :/

Reb Beach one of my old time fav. guitar players. gotta say - i dont miss the stupid lyrics, but i miss the solos. ahhhhh those were the days. gnite!

AHHH SHANE!! Opened for Slaughter!!! I went in LOOKING for Slaughter tonight and could find nary a crumb. I had "Fly to the Angels" rolling 'round in my head, and that was what I really wanted.
And stupid lyrics?? I was just sitting here thinking how really talented Cinderella was, MILES above the rest of what was out at the time, lyrically AND musically. That guy could play the hell out of a guitar. Never really noticed the bluesey sound they had back in the day. (who the hell appreciates The Blues at 16?) And NOBODY can belt out a song like Tom Keifer. ('cept maybe Mark S.) Yes, it was hair metal, but those boys were talented. And Reb Beach? I could go on all night....
Those WERE the days huh?
(i feel like such a dork that I actually KNOW all this stuff!!)

good times - great oldies!

did anyone ever notice that Klaus Meine had a receding hairline the size of the grand canyon back in the early 80's? i didnt... "Rahk yu like ahh Hahrikane!"

while it may not appear so at this time, once in awhile i am capable of having a fairly intellectual conversation on topics other than male pattern baldness.

Oooooohhh.....I have to admit I was never a Twisted Sister fan myself. Not totally sure why....
Dee Snider does host a radio show called The House of Hair that I listened to faithfully in Memphis when I was living there. Every Saturday night, 10 to midnight. LOVED that show. There is one here in Colorado called Metal Mass that I worship in front of weekly now...Hosted by a local guy named....Big Hairy... :) Heard Drivin' and Cryin' this past week! Fly Me Courageous!!! Gotta love it...
Speaking of radio shows, Alice Cooper has one now as well....he's a pretty damn funny guy! I am not a huge fan of his music, but I love his radio show. Guess that's what happens to all the good rockers "afterwards". They all get kick ass radio shows.....

"....we're not gonna take it....NO...we ain't gonna take it...."

oh my. oh oh my. fine, i too will admit, i downloaded "you don't know what you got till it's gone" the other day cuz it used to make me cry back in grade seven! and have you noticed how some of these bigger rock bands nowadays (e.g. Coheed and Cambria) are milking that '80's metal sound? that is indeed why that band is such a guilty pleasure for me. i grew up loving that sound, and it's nice to hear a group take the good ideas from that sound and make it sound fresh,,, well, contrived, to be sure,, but done well nonetheless. thanks, kris, for making it ok to admit to this!

ok. i saw VIXEN and FIREHOUSE last night. all the dudes in FIREHOUSE had hair, and i gotta tell you...

i never really liked them, but they friggin ROKKED! i mean seriously ROKKED!! non-stop showmanship and energy, without stupid stage antics. that whole hair band scene is totally different than the rock music of the last 10 yrs or so. i had a huge grin on my face. loved it. vixen was OK... i think the gtr player is only orig. member.

thought of you while singing along to BYE BYE BABY BYE BYE...

AHHHH! I'm so jealous. I sat here yesterday and completely overdosed on Metal, compliments of VH1. Apparently May is Metal Month and they have TONS of good shows on. They had the 100 best Hard Rock bands of all time, I only saw the last 15 or so. Then, 5 hours straight of "HEAVY: The Story of Metal." THAT was a great show. It literally took you through the inception of metal all the way to today. The first metal band (in their opinion, but I have to agree) was Black Sabbath. LOTS of good metal bands came from Birmingham England I guess. It went all through the 70's and the 80's hair metal era too. It has to be the best and most comprehensive show on metal music that I've ever seen. If you get a chance, watch it!!
Been listening to my 3 CD's non stop since I bought them. It may have been all flash and pomp, but you're right. That stuff DOES really rock!!

So out of them all....who would you say is your fave??

Funny little story about Queensryche.....
The movie The Adventures of Ford Fairlane was filmed (well, some of it anyway) in Colorado. The concert footage with Bobby Black (vince neil) was shot at Red Rocks Amphitheater. ( a little aside, i was actually in the movie in a crowd scene, got paid a whoppin' $40!!!) ANYWAY.........Apparently Vince and the movie band could not be counted on to get the crowd riled up enough for the director's taste, so they brought in Queensryche to get the crowd going for those shots. It was killer. So....basically, I got PAID to watch Vince Neil die on stage 20 times in a row (he SUCKED, they had to shoot a million times...surprise surprise), be in a movie AND see a Queensryche show! Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
I think Operation Mindcrime is one of the best CD's ever put out. I will admit that QR is not exactly in the REALLY heavy metal category, like Sabbath and Metallica, but Geoff Tate's work is really pure art. I really loved his stuff. I think he's still making music? I'll need to look him up now that you've brought him to my mind!!
AND.....YNGWIE!!!!!! I would kneel at his feet if given the chance. I adored him back in the day....

q.ryche is STILL making music. my buddy is still really into them. lets see. TRIBE is a newer cd. its dang good.

never a big fan of Motley Crue. that is so cool about QR having to pump the crowd up! to this day i feel MTV's incessant playing of silent lucidity in the long run hurt their career.

did you ever think it funny that Yngwie J. Malmsteen always had to throw the "J" in the middle to differentiate himself from all of the other "Yngwie Malmsteens" in the world?

ps - check my new blog on HEAVY music. you may appreciate it
