Commumnity Radio
A group of us has real busy lately with setting up a community radio station for my neighbourhood. It has turned out to be a lot more work than i ever imagined. I thought jokingly how hard can it be to stick an aerial up get a couple of cd decks and start broadcasting oh boy was i wrong. Crisis meetings and all sorts have ensued but we are slowly getting there. There is so much regulations and licence,s to contend with in the UK anyway. It is unbelievable they can come up with so much hyperbole and red tape for such a small thing as a community station. We will not be defeated though we are working thru the red tape and such. And hope to be broadcasting on the internet soon within the month as a first step towards getting on air. Then hopefully the end of this year start of next broadcasting on FM on a limited licence. I am going to be doing a show dedicated to all the IAC folk a hour a week. For all there support of my music give something back I don,t want no links yet but i will in time. I,ll let you know. We are connected with other stations so a bit of rebroadcasting on other stations will probably happen. Get some of the indies on air i,m sure it will go down well there so much good music on here. We will be looking for music for jingles intro,s and outro,s and that. So if your interested message me on my music page and we will see. I,ll keep blogging about the station as it happens

Good Luck with your endeavours Paul!

On a side note we went to see a new film yesterday called
'The Boat that Rocked', a story based on Pirate radio in the
late '60's!

Very enjoyable, but still had some moments of cringe in it!

Give me the link to your station when it is up and running please!

Thanks

Best of luck there.

Our drummer (Tok Kun) is an ocasional DJ at a community radio station in Daito City, Osaka. They started out as FM (very low power mind you) but recently moved to internet only.

I guess being in a completely different country the rules and red tape will be completely different though.

Hope your's works out well.

I was speaking to a owner of local music festival up here and he was telling me how bad the state of the music industry is in. So to me the only way indies are going to make things happen is by starting stations and festivals making it happen them selves getting the word out that there is something else happening. Very talented people with passion and commitment right on your door step.
