Working and playing with songwriting
Songwriting....It's such a strange process, when I have a new one, and it's completed - which can take anything from 10 minutes to 3 years! It makes me think about why some songs just 'turn up' almost like some were already written and magically delivered into your brain. Whereas other songs can be just bits and pieces for ages, and don't seem to want to be finished any time soon. One of my songs, I had the chorus for what seemed like centuries, and the verse came to me a year later. What's all this about?! I think the best songs are the ones that just 'turn up', but they are few and far between. When I 'work' on a song,(and I think, right, now I'm going to sit down and write a song), the process seems harder...(And I keep making cups of tea, cos it's not going right. Do you know what I mean? And the results are not as good as the other kind of songs. There are lots of books about how to 'get to the creative within' etc, I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this process. I think it's all mighty strange....Happy songwriting!

Many times Baby has had that conduit to the gods thing you are talking about. When it happens just right it can be very emotional, I have been in tears one minute and elated the next. Baby thinks the songs are already there. If your very lucky you can grab one. I only have two such songs. Prisoner of my skin is one. The other is called the crow. Its a piano song. I was very pleased to have it happen on piano, as I am mostly a guitar player. Funny it was almost more natural feeling on keys. The lateral position of the keys is much more comfortable for yoga type breathing to enhance the experience. Don't know if the crow will ever be here but prisoner is. Wonder how many songs I could grab if I really tried. Wonder how much I have missed. Glad you can grab em too. Baby
