The IAC-The Polite Website
I'm in a chatty mood....! It has ocurred to me that of all the sites, ie myspace etc, IAC is incredibly polite. I have had horrible and unnecessary comments on other sites from people who seem to have nothing better to do than put other people down. Thank God it doesn't happen here. I don't know what makes it different, I'm just glad it is!!!
It's fantastic, this site ain't it?
Love to all

I think a lot of this phenomina has to do with the average age of people on this site. I believe we were all brought up in an era that kindness and being polite meant something. Like treating others as you would like to be treated. Kinda nice ain't it?
Has anyone seen my Vita-meata-vegimen? I'm totally out of vodka mixer dude! Smile........I'm kidding! Happy 4th, Duane

I am inclined to agree with you! Thanks to Ray Porter, who excitedly told me about this site, I have come to respect each and every one here. I haven't read one "bashing" type review or statement anywhere. Everyone seems eager to help their fellow musicians and isn't that the way it should be? I'm glad to see others appreciate this site too! Good luck and best wishes to all. Peace.

There are many fine musicians here but I have yet to meet one who puts career aspirations ahead of love of music and courtesy to others...and maybe this has something to do with age. I know I have no illusions about giant record contracts, fame or fortune... I just love to play music and to listen to the creations of others. I enjoy getting to know others and wouldn't want to jeopardize any of this over something as silly as differing musical tastes.

I think the reason the really nasty stuff doesn't creep in as much here is because the administrators actually care about the site, unlike My Space which is owned by a corporation and mainly exists to sell ads, not to help artists. Anyway IAC watches over things fairly closely and they're awake day and night or so it seems.
I disagree about it being the age factor because this site probably has more young cutting edge artists than any of the others excepting My Space which has the obvious teenage crowd.
Anyway I've seen many instances of the level of cooperation and collaboration here and the artist community does seem a step above.

Wait a second... what are you saying here? The age distribution of iacmusic might actually be what you say but to assume that age has anything to do with being on the cutting edge (whereever that is) is a big leap. I deal with enough college age student/musicians at work to know that many of those are still lost in a musical past that existed before they were born (I see that here as well). I watch them scratch their heads when I talk about Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsome, Sufjan Stevens and those other performers loosely placed in the Psychfolk movement. This "senior citizen" (not really!) listens to and admires these cutting edge performers... But maybe these artists don't count as cutting edge.

Baby, has to put in his two cents, I think your all right in one way or another, This is more a grown up crowd, The baby boomers (our parents) did care about manners and being polite. Let us not forget that many of us came from garbage band. (The shit on your fellow musician capitol of the world). I also would like to believe that given the chance we will treat others with respect. But perhaps its the fear of not being added to stations if the word spreads your a jerk. It seems the younger crowd just load the songs and wait, don't really browse and blog much like us cats that have nothing better to do.. Gurgle. But it is all good.

I very much agree with you Cathy, I've gotten nothing but positive vibes from IAC, in my view it's a very uplifiting and supportive site and I feel a great comradarie among the artists that I've come in contact with, (you're one of them!), not to mention a great support system from the staff and the site itself. It truly is one of a kind and I don't think you'll find it anywhere else.
All the best to the fine artists and staff that live here on IAC....:)

I agree, this is a site without collective ego and blissfully lacking in rude people!!!!
I also love myspace for the bulletin facility which I need for my animal welfare posts and I have a real soft spot for mixposure too, IAC is different and that's probably why so many people love it :):)

I have to add my other 2 cents! While on garageband I encountered many fine musicians and bands that had really great tunes; (actually had high ratings), but it was always inevitable that some two-bit moron with his/her own hidden agenda, would give them a really horrible critique. No wait, it wasn't a critique! It was nothing more than jealous bashing, I think.
I was also on the bashing list a time or two, or three!! hee hee. You know, sticks and stones...etc.
I thought that garageband would have been more helpful to indie musicians; a place where you could use constructive criticism to hone your skills. I think the idea was there but there was too much focus on the contest and ratings.
All I really want to say is..........IAC RULES...because the artists here are exactly that--artists.
How much artistic ability does it take to become a clone of "that which sells"?
