i am in love under ice
a trickle down like
down peak to swell like
cold wind down neck
down soft down swell
up curl up speed up
Slow. Down. Trickle.
others compare it
to a pebble in a stream
spurred and jarred/
carried and crushed/
swished around but
really it is a wave in
a river, a space of
water moving towards
ocean, pick-ups and
deposits, pulling from
earth, carrying
something for a while
when it leaves – beyond
one’s control – as well
things drop in, fall in,
jump in and the wave
wraps around it, you
wrap around it, i
wrap around it, and once
wet with you it will
eventually dry off
water in a river,
moving towards ocean,
is water already in
the ocean, is water
in the sky, is water
frozen too long ago
to be forgotten
i am love under ice
(if it were warmer)
cold useless hands
are stiff this morning
the pain
of the thaw
hurts to feel today –
as i melt i wrap
around and it feels
warm to feel at all
