I think we're at the right place at the right time
For major record labels, sales are down, the cost to promote an artist is up. When net revenues are down, corporations start to trim the fat. Record labels will have to adjust their business model to remain profitable, resulting in reduced services. Most likely they will become more conservative with their investments and more hesitant to sign new artists.
Artists and bands need to recognize this trend and learn how to continue to build their fan bases and sales on their own. Or at least with the help of people that share the vision.
Is this wild speculation? Maybe. Anything can change at any time. But if the current trends continue I see this as the natural consequences.
Anyhow, we need a lot more resources to fully realize the dream but I really believe we're headed in the right direction and have surpassed the barriers that have held up any type of artist movement in the past.
