Yeah, only it's not just Wal-Mart per si.
In Canada at least, it's an ever expanding burden of taxes and costs that get handed down to Small Business folks.
The big companies have enough resources to hire, fire, move out to cheaper real estate in neighboring, big-business friendly suburbs. Meanwhile in town, the small shops and small warehouse business flounder without any help or care.
Which is stupid, because historically they have been the backbone of a city.
Now, it's the developers that have greedy eyes on that real estate in town, or just on the edge. Problem is of course, once all the businesses are turned into residential zoning, there is no business-tax base and everyone is suddenly reverse commuting from the city to the suburbs.
People are idiots, governments more so.
