Pete Townshend's message - examine thyself
I find that in this era, the short attention span world we're living in, where everybody tries to find the best way to waste time, that there's something missing in humanity that may or may have not been wiped out by car emissions in their brains or something.
I can't believe how often in my interpersonal relationships, I run into people with no visible evidence of any introspection to speak of. They don't seem to question themselves about right and wrong, they don't seem to have any doubt of their direction no matter what stupid tangent they're on, how obviously out of wack it is, , they don't have any awareness of when they're getting carried away by group dynamics which often render them incapable of having independent thought.
This is the thing about Townshend's music. More than any artist in rock history, Pete is about introspection, about examining the self from many angles. This singing to yourself, at yourself, challenging yourself, it's what separates humanity from a zoo. If everyone had self-awareness, there would be far fewer wars, conflicts. It's a fact that every rational adult that spends some time honestly appraising themselves is a far better person for it. Of course the name Who is a reference to the issue of identity that is this subject's foundation.
Everybody needs to listen to a full dose of Townshend and/or The Who every so often because we are all in a state of needing constant awakening and reorienting to this difficult world we live in. What better use for rock music than to dig deep into the soul, it's a perfect match. The power chord of being honest with yourself should be the soundtrack for mankind, such a shame that so many are lost in the tribal abyss.
The real me is at the end of a road you need to travel. You are not a helpless victim of your environment. But it may take some loud music in your head to empower you.

oh the Who always had a rivalry with the Stones. Pete and Mick and Keith and Elton would always be badmouthing one another, but some of that was out of love. heh
by the way CJ if you want to comment like this I have no problem with it but if it resembles stalking in any way I'll remove it from my blog page as any artist here has the right to do.

There's a great article in classic rock mag Oct issue, about this very subject, I'll find the authors name. And it's true to say the beginning starts inside and unfolds outwardly through our communication and expression towards others, good topic!
Cheers for this one :)
