Jeff's Passing
I've just gotten around to posting a blog on mp3, all the most up to date information is on myspace.com/redseastation. A month and a half ago Jeff passed away while camping during a storm in the UP of Michigan. So sudden and unexpected. Only a few weeks before we had finished recording the material for this record in Detroit. Now everything I hear from our project seems strange and prophetic. The Last Chord, the Other End, Last Marathon....names that were never meant to be memorials, but for some reason have become exactly that..... I remember being uncomfortable at the time with using so many 'last's' in song titles. Even stranger the last song I wrote for the project was called The Last Chord, a song I had wanted to write for a long time. A song for songwriters who had passed on too soon. Now, what was supposed to be commentary on the state of the world has become commentary on our own project.
I just remember the late night warm sounds, the arguments, political conversations, conversations and new music ideas. And now I hope i can do my small part in keeping our music alive and continuing on with new songs and music in the Red Sea Station vein.
While the record was meant to be released in August, everything has pushed back with the events that have unfolded. I want to make sure to honour his last creative project in the best way possible. I will attempt to keep everyone up to date, but until then you can check on the myspace site for all the latest.
