Keep Your Musical Dreams Alive
You know music is a wonderful world, where would we be without it ? It can make you happy or sad, make a memory easier to remember or get you through some rough times, yes it is part of our lives. For those starting out the thoughts after hearing that great song by someone makes you think God I would love to write a song like that, and we have all thought that at some point.A starter or a pro no matter how big a star, loves to hear their friends and fans give their approval to something they have done in their musical offerings. If you are a musician,a solo artist or in a band, when starting out you will have the nights where the crowd is very small but go on, give it your best,I know that it sure takes alot to stay upbeat but those people that are there usually want to hear what you are all about(you never know who is listening). Now this brings me to how did you get to perform at this venue in the first place.Well,if you are unknown,it's hard to perform all your own music so no doubt you can only sneak a few of your own tunes in, the rest will have to be cover songs, this is where you will get your experience of the world of performing for live audience's.When you get that "big gig" know your stuff, have it together, look good or the part, it all helps but it's your own music that will count in the end.Now on the internet there is so much music and different types. There are hundreds of sites where you can put your songs for people to listen to or download, this is a great start.Eveyone needs a base and depending how far you want to take your musical career,it sure is a great way to start. If your starting out get those photo's and bio's and songs recorded and put them out there, people love to hear and see what you are all about. The world of music for singers, bands, songwriters is not an easy one, there are many roadblocks, ups and downs. We all would love to write great songs and be the next super star with a major label, but in reality only a few will get that far and have their music remembered forever. It doesn't matter as long as your happy and touch some others with your songs, the old saying a big fish in a small pond.We all have our ponds and dreams, ever been to a house party or at a beach party, boy when the guitar or guitars come out it's surprising the songs you will remember words to and the fun you always have. You need a fan base, someone who will listen and in my thinking what better way then using the internet to it's full extent. The musicians you will meet old and new have some super music out there and they all have the same thing in common,"music".Small town,Big city, the world of music has no bounds, work hard and you will see the value.Don't give up your dreams,we are listening.

This is very inspiring ... I think ? Can I have my spanking now I have to get to my "How to be a loser" seminar before I start polluting my head with professional thoughts like this. I only wish someone would have told me all this before I spent years performing at the old folks home trying desperately to get them to dance to my originals. And to think I could have been a contender...

( sorry, I just couldn't help myself... love and love and more love and then even more love after that )

Thank you for the encouraging words for all of us,
To some , your words may sound condescending, to others, words of truth from the Heart. I think one of the underlying problems in the indie Artist's world is that so many in Society are trying to make Art into Sport, We are encouraged to "battle" other bands, join in the myriad of "contests" to prove our worth, only to discover (to our horror) that a lot of these 'contests' are actually popularity contests. Who's the "best", who's better than who?, what song did you like better? "A" or "B", etc. This false sense of Musical battle, Artisic warfare, pathetic starving artists, slamming their skeleton bodies into each other in the mosh pit we call Indie Music, is causing alot of belittling, and angst. do we battle it out for a shot at the bigtime?, hardly, the big time is reserved for the ones lucky enough to have that "big break", and NOT SCREW IT UP! Do we harm each other's egos, and self promote to the extent of obsession/compulsion, for all of our own benefit, or do we selfishly think that "we are the talented, deserving ones"?, that somehow some Music Industry hotshot will hear our gleaming masterpieces over the din and cacaphony of the "other guys", the competition? Well, in my opinion, the problem is our motives, why are we playing Music in the first place? For me, if the only goal was "making it", I would have given up long ago (I've been playing like a lunatic since 1974), I've never "made it", and may never! Does that mean I'm not talented enough? I can't answer that, Am I missing that one thing? youth?, good looks?, tons of dedicated, almost deaf Friends? Who knows. All I know is...I Love Music, for Music's sake. It makes me feel, and feeling something, anything, is good. I am 50 years old, and still rockin', and plan to be rockin' till' the day I drop. Creating something new, jammin' with my buddies, not watching t.v., sharing (or at least trying) with others, it's ALL GOOD. And if along the way, I'm lucky enough to "Make it", great, if not, so be it, I'm still having Fun. As Jimi Hendrix said "Music is not Fashion". Fashion, and Styles come and go. Art is Forever. Let's not give up, and lets not be overly competitive, lets find our true satisfaction in creating our beloved Music, and making new Friends, all over the World that share our interests, and not do war anymore.
Love and infinite Peace,
T.J. Franklin

Speaking just for me and Coca Cola ...

"I want to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony ..."

Cause tone deaf drunks make my ears bleed when they try to take over the stage mic and sing ...

So sit down, you damn tone deaf drunks, switch to Coke, get yourself sober, and shut the hell up.

... and NO, WE'RE NOT DOING #@$%@#& "FREE BIRD"!!!

Ah, yes ... the good 'ol days in the band ... remember them well.

:-D
