I'm trapped in the past and don't wanna escape
I've been reading a book called 1965 about the music of that year and there's no doubt in my mind that our culture is in a far lower state than those times nowadays. There's not even a comparison, the worst song from then is better than the best song now. I also had an idyllic youth and prefer to relive moments from then rather than the drab days of 2015. Anyway I'm afraid my condition can't be cured, I ride in a time machine that doesn't want to live in this stupid era.

Oh boy, a lot of people are going to hate me for say this but....
I am the exact opposite of you. I abhor the 1960's as it was a very traumatic time for me. Jim Crow was still in effect which meant that me and my family were being treated like second hand citizens. We had to drink from the "colored" faucets and walk several miles to the Negro bathroom. We had to sit in the back of the restaurant and some did not allow us in at all. The music? Of course the music was better to those of us who lived those times. But the old folks of those times thought our music was crap. They hated Elvis, the Beatles, Marvin Gaye and all the so called "race music" like the Motown Sound. They thought it was all a bunch of noise. Much in the same way that we say a lot of music today is just a bunch of noise. But the youth of today think they are bringing forth the best music of any time. I say, let them have their false perceptions much in the same way that we did.
So, I refuse to be stuck in the past. Those good old days that people always refer to? Those days were not good at all for me. Both of my parents were missing and considered dead. My life as an abandoned child was filled with the pain of child abuse and outright neglect. Most days I had to steal in order to have a meal. I lived out on the streets and learned to play music by hanging out with the wino's who played the Blues in front of the liquor stores. Those musicians truly knew how to suffer for their art.
The music of those days was my saving grace. It helped me to get through the hard times. It was truly great music. But that does not mean there is no great music today. Just because it doesn't sound like yesteryears doesn't mean it is not quality music. This is the next generations music and for them it will mark their most formative years. I suspect that in the 2030's they will be listening to the music of that day and saying it is crap because it does not sound like the music of today. By then, only a few old fogeys will be left to exclaim qualitative legitimacy of the 60's music. But all will be forgotten in regards to the assignations of the two Kennedy's and Martin Luther King jr. No one will talk about the war protests, the church bombings and the sever poverty that most minorities faced each day. The reality for people like me is that the 60's sucked. I wouldn't go back to the 60's for anything.
I am stuck in the mode of trying to stay in touch with the music of today while maintaining the realness of the past. I see it as building a bridge to the future from a musical stand point. I love and embrace the advances of technology and the diversity in musical genres. I can record my music without paying someone $150.00 an hour now. I can market, publish and administer my own music. Truly this is a golden age for musicians that have embraced the advances of technology. I went back to college after I retired from my day jobs and earned credentials in recording engineering and music business. My focus is on the young musicians coming up in my family and friend circle. I am teaching them about the past so that they can learn how to integrate those sounds into the music of the future. I already lived the past. For me it is full steam ahead towards whatever future awaits. Rather than be pessimistic, I choose to be optimistic about the present and the future. I believe that the best music of all time has still yet to be recorded. The best artists of all time are suckling toddlers who will grow up to take their rightful places amongst musical legends. The past will always be important to me because it made me who I am today. But the future is what will lead me to my greatest achievements. I stay revved up and excited about that. After being here over 6 decades, I look forward to what comes next. One thing is for sure, like you, my condition also cannot be cured. Death is the only thing that will eventually stop me.

You ain't too fly are you Fly. Flies have a short lifespan of approximately seven to 10 days, and the main goal of the species is to find a food source and breed, we guess you already did that in 1965? We think you could be way past your sell-by date Sir.

I'm more fly than you, sisters. Big booties like that went out in 1993. :D
Stoneman, I don't know how far we got past the racial discrimination of the 60s. At least I see the confederates finally surrendered after all this time.

Yeah, sad that it took more innocent people to die before they would consider taking down the last confederate flag flying in a state capitol. Should have been gone years ago. At any rate, they still claim that the South will rise again.
Whatever!

You're the one who's done too many drugs if you write off 60s music like that! Of course production wasn't as good before digital recording.

or maybe I didn't do enough.
there is very little of anything that I would want to listen to more than the first 10 seconds.
modern music landscape is a diverse cornucopia with anything you want.
I'm with Stoneman. This is the golden age. More opportunities for those geniuses who would otherwise have no exposure.
My ipod is crammed full of good shit. Very little is from the sixties. Sorry, man.

I remember when it felt like putting music online was an opportunity. I think it was before 10 trillion people uploaded music at My Space.
As for your taste in music, you're probably one of those guys who thinks Paul McCartney's first group was Wings. :D
