Do heaps of insanity cause a fertile ground for a cultural explosion?
I was thinking that my life is crazy lately, yet I seem to be thinking clearly. We music people have been waiting for a cultural explosion for years now, as popular music has gone down the tubes. I go from being incredibly angry when some know-nothing a-hole chimes in to say how Trump would be better than Hillary to lately feeling that the stage really may be setting for great things to happen, seeing what seems to be going on at IMP.
Is a new era about to begin? There are signs out there and I'm not talking about the Rump.

I believe the seeds are there but the world is not the same as it was in the 60's.
I'm not sure in today's world of technology, oversight, and just plain laziness what it would take to cause a revolution but apparently not knowing which bathroom to use is causing a controversy.

I think music follows a pattern like politics. (From the UK, so can only make general terms about the USA). The rise of populist, non establishment political groups, whether Trump or the movement to take the UK out of Europe, or the neo nazi recently nearly elected in Austria come when the establishment is so crap and without any idea rather than furthering itself. So with music, when the dinosaurs were refusing to tour or engage, the punks took over. Now we have pre-packaged, instant stardom where they are all the same, and something has to happen. where and when is the question.

I agree "when the dinosaurs are refusing to tour" others will engage. We are reaching the end of an era Ozzy will retire soon. Many other 70's rockers are falling. Who knows what will happen with AC/DC after Axl Rose. A new generation needs to stand up and its not the "pre-packaged, instant stardom where they are all the same, and something has to happen."
Good thoughts.

Deep questions.
Well seems to be that when things get too plastic one way
or another, something happens to try and shake it up and break the plastic mold.
One thing missing, is the dream.
Almost no one has it anymore.
Look.
My dream is, I'm gonna be the biggest f-ing thing in the world.
I ain't givin' up till it happens, one way or another....
And the way FOR that to happen,
is BE at the center of this 'cultural explosion' hurricane....
and the way to do THAT
is 1, cultivate honesty, because that's the key,
and 2, develop real kick-ass perception, because the truth you
dare tell is only as good as the truth you can become aware of,
you can't say, what you don't know....
it's like, why do artists matter?
Because we're supposed to be able to articulate,
what they all would, if they only knew how to.
It's teaching people to express themselves,
by no power greater than example, by us, bring ourselves.
I mean, you can say 'hey, be yourself!'
but no one know what to make of that.
It takes a zany kind of person to really push the boundaries....
working your ass off years and years does help,
for it makes you feel like, 'hey you know f--- this all, I deserve to be the biggest'
that doesn't happen overnight, anymore than any sort of ability
where you actually have a shot at cracking the 'what are they
really thinking NOW' code.
It all takes a f***all of work. That's for sure.

Well I certainly hope so. Maybe it won't be as effective as past cultural revolotutions through music were but something is bound to happen. People tend to tire of mechanistic finance worshipping and move towards a more compassionate scope and sound. Real music with lyrics that have worth are sue to come but only when it is time. I remain uplifted and hopeful that things will turn around soon. I hope to be a part of it. But my age and health may leave me as invalid as the next changeling that tries to redress today's sound with emotions from the past. Instead of looking at the past I believe that we must forge a new future and I trust that young artists will answer the call. But just in case, let us remain prayerful and willing to guide, mentor and direct. Could be that the next musical genius is waddling on the floor in your neighbors living room right now. Some day he may replace his sippy cup with a trumpet or sax. Or, he may strap on a guitar and tear the world a new asshole. One thing is for sure, life has a way of bringing us exactly what we need when we need it the most. Keep faith and hope alive.............they are the only things that can be relied up on.

Soon the commercial chart stuff will become so samey they'll be no point producing new stuff.
I just saw an advert for Coldplay's next release and quite honestly you could stick a pin in any band at IMP to find something better - or at least more original. Maybe the current producers should take a break, listen to the crap they're producing, look down to earth and come back refreshed.

The revolution has to be more important than the music for the music to be any good. If it is just about the music, it will not be revolutionary.

Larree,
I agree hence my reference to the 60's. There needs to be a social change or platform some kind of movement that will bring forward the musical revolution.

Everything in the universe is circling around something. What goes around keeps coming right on back around. So, I have no doubt that good quality music with worthy messages will be coming back around soon. Just as the racists and political idiots keep drudging up the crap from the past, so will quality artists come forth to fight back with heart pounding music that has meaning. It has been a long wait but I think the time is coming soon. What goes around just keeps coming back. That is a universal law. It must and will happen. Patience is the the hardest atribute to acquire and maintain. But we must remain patient while the door for change begins to open again. We must be vigilant in our own personal quest to bring forth music and art that makes a difference in the world.
Much Respect,
Stoneman
