The Underground 40 is too indieish. I am appalled and sweaty.
I havn't been here for at least 3 hours and I'm still on my old computer but I've been surfing around here recently trying to find new songs/artists to add to my stations.
I flipped thru all the tracks on the Big 50 (except for 37 or so I inadvertently avoided). I found it generally rockin' especially Domenica and The Licks and probably added 4 tracks. There was nothing I wanted to add from the current 'Underground 40', just nothin' there that made me feel big and strong.. The only way i can describe the sound and writing was 'Indieish'. This kind of flavor is far too obvious and predictable on an indie site.
Of course all this is to do with taste-and i admit there's certain lo-fi trigger-points which make me feel this deep surge of self-importance shooting up through my tatas.. The muted folky guitars and the earnest soulful singer songwriters (available in ALL genres but the No Genre genre, unfortunately) to name but 2..
Even given that, I'd say I've got pretty wide and accessible taste if I ask me,.I mean (like most people) i love a good song with my biscuit, and don't spare the gravy. That's right, Martha, I love tunes which don't beat around the bush, that knock you upside the tooty the first time you hear them and kick you in the you-know-what on the way back to town.. I love loud, crisp, hot, juiced up, ramped-down racket that will hit the broad side of a barn with a hooky kind of a hooked-up hook. From digging around these parts I've found loads of blaring fat hooky-hookamon songs here and (imho) my stations are friggin' overflowing with em, thank you very much. I'm pretty sure that 98% of them have never got within a nosehair of the Underground 40 here either, and they're proud of it..
It feels weird then to me, to come here feeling like a man who didn't eat any breakfast. Wrapped up like a douche, you know a runner in the night, I slightly cringed to the overly poignant Underground 40 because it didn't blare enough for my particular taste zone. Why can't they have 2 Big 50s with MORE Big 50ish songs with hooky-hook hooks and NO subtle treasures at all?
Save the subtle treasures for playing on offshore shortwave radio, Talula! As a lover of blaring supercharged poprock anthems, something the IAC bureaucrats seem to indicate are proliferating in their lush backyards- I should find lots of heavy duty hi-fidelity nutrition even on the chart that's supposed to be an alternative to the alternative if I'm going to bother to place my uppity finger on the play button, but this absoloutly isn't the case due to the equal opportunity IAC fascists.
To me the main thing the Underground 40 songs share isn't rockin radiotometry as i understand it, but this utterly humble, down-to-earth production and too much blind obedience to the cult of the unmastered music mafia.. I am indignant and horrified at what has transpired here, as every click I click should send me spiralling to an early rock grave, as I prefer.
I A C, why can't you serve my ass better!!

....and now I feel bad that I took the a rolled up 'Leicester Mercury' to one of your brothers yesterday. Perhaps we should all view life from your vantage point, half way up the wall and near an open window ready for a quick escape. You're to "Fly" to be a fly - I think I'm in love!

Oh I glow alright, but that's not to say I have any relation to the firefly species, who we flies regard as weak and spineless, a disgrace to their fly heritage.
