How many of you living here actually had the idea of making entertaining music?
I'm guessing all?
At least half of you.

I did want to make entertaining music, once. But I abandoned it, in favour of making noises intended to annoy animals at long distances.

Naaah, I think that whole "entertaining" thing has become nothing more than another tired musical cliche.
Imo, ...It's been done, ...and done again.
I say it's time to pull the plug on entertaining music, and allow it to die a dignified death. Stop the compressions, pull the sheet over the head, and just let the patient go.
It's time for the next big thing, ...that's right, it's time for UNentertaining music!
Yes, these days the true "movers and shakers" like myself, are constantly breaking new ground in the field of "Unentertaining Music".
I'm always exploring new, and unexciting ways of making my music less, and less interesting, and as unentertaining as possible.
This is what I believe is what "I" do best, and this is how I plan to seperate myself from the rest of the crowd; with their oh so tiresome interesting beats, beautiful melodies, intricate harmonies, skilled musicianship, and competent production.
BORING!!!
I my friends have chosen the road less travelled, ...and that has made all the difference.. (Well, okay it hasn't really paid off yet, but its kind of a new idea so it'll probably take a little time to work out some of the kinks, and stuff... But people are definitely starting to notice!)
In fact I get comments all the time from people who seem to be genuinely impressed by the progress I've made in this endeavor. I'm often approached by people who have heard some of my music, and were touched to the point that they feel compelled to share with me, just how they felt while experiencing it, and how incredibly unentertaining it was.
Some of them seem quite enthusiastic about it too!
I always make a point to thank them, and then hand them one of the autographed triple CDs I keep handy for just such an occasion.
Sure, it's a little expensive I suppose, ...but I find that the look on their faces makes it all worth while. (Yanno, there really is joy in giving.) It's people like these that keep me going! I like to think, I'm doing it for them.

I don't know. I mean, yeah I've thought about it.
Do I do it? I suppose sometimes I do or I wouldn't have fans around the world.
I don't know how to though.
I mean, I don't set out like "I will be entertaining today".
I'd fall flat on my face.
I either come up with something which interests me,
and therefore may interest any number of others listening to it,
or I watch a movie or something.
I'm probably more of an inner directed artist type,
and any entertainment is incidental.

Yeah John, you knew, once. You all did.

Yeah, Meatpie. I knew. Once upon a time. Or thought I did.
Now I don't know how I did it.
Okay you dragged it out of me. So okay we'll go try to do it again
for whatever goddamned reason it is, I don't know. You know, George?
Shook his head. He doesn't know either.
Entertainment was bloody easier in our day, I have to admit that.
Hard to know what grabs people these days.
There you go. Candid Musings From John Lennon MBE.
I don't care if I gave it back 'cause of Cold Turkey slipping in
the charts---damned stupid fucking reason to give back your MBE too---
I'm still even Dead, a Member Of The British Fucking Empire.
But I don't believe in it. Fuck that shite.
Well I don't believe in anybody's empire.
God and I warily tolerate each other.

Do we mean specifically for the entertainment of others? Or entertaining yourself either by creating or enjoying the end product? Personally, I do it to entertain myself, and I get gratification from others being entertained by it, and lets be reminded that the antonym of 'entertain' is 'bore', and I doubt anyone does music specifically to bore people.

I have no idea what the context was when I made that post, but it did bring up the question where the hell has Phlegm been?
