compromising in art and life
It's hard to find the essence of where you stand with all the complications in your face from understanding possible repercussions of your actions.
There are times when I will stand by the most trivial principle until I'm the last one standing, and other times where I throw every single issue out except for the one that matters most.
Any successful artist or person has insights about when and how much they can or should compromise. Possibly their future is more determined by the compromises they choose than the hard stands they take.
Sometimes in normal life, people are shocked by how firmly I stick to my guns, the deep focus I keep.
Often the important compromises occur when I don't really know how I feel, and can't narrow it down enough to take a stand.
I like to feel I know who I am as comprehensively as anyone yet my life seems to center around choices that are about finding balances and my calculations are often far off the mark when it comes to that.
I wonder who I would be if I found a sure answer in every instance of confusion that came my way?

Strange this is your topic right now. Quite relevant.
My main failure has been compromise in LIFE -- with family.... We're really struggling to redefine ourselves in this tough economy, with a Dad still foolishly pursuing his music dreams on the side...
BUT in MUSIC -- it seems I often learn to compromise quite well. It's actually quite amazing the music that has come out of this little house here in Tucson.
NOW to take those times of achieving COMPROMISE with success, and apply them to the rest of life...... SIGH...... if only.

You'd be God Fly..
(actually you wouldn't as God probarbly dosn't have any confusion in the first place lol)
I don't think anyone can get away from having to face the pain of crisis situations where conflicting desires and different aspects of your nature are challenged..Its part of being alive as a human being.
You just try and learn and do the best you can..
Who ever gets it totally 'right'?
The best artists embrace those contradictions and conflicts imo..

Life is always a balancing act between taking a stand and compromising. Over the years I've taken many strong stands in both life and art and I've also compromised some things. The older I get the more I become good at knowing when to stand up and when to sit down! You have to pick your battles carefully. You can't win them all but you can win some. The important thing to remember is that it is futile to ponder how your life would be different if you had made different choices. You can drive yourself crazy doing that. You have to trust your instincts and stay flexible, always opening new doors and closing others. Learning to live with contradiction and conflicting desires is an art in itself. Life is the only game in town, so play the hand you were dealt and do your best. Even if you don't win every hand, you know you're a player.
