A Peep at the Angel in the Can
Like any producer intent on creating a superb musical experience, Rahkyt was bombarded with more material than he could utilize for the first outing of “The Goddess and the Skylark, Dancing Through the World Labyrinth.” As a result, a few choice lyrics were gently set to the side in that proverbial can which has been known to yield future gold. “I Just Want My Angel Back” is a song resting in the can. I imagined it as an emotionally nuanced dirt-slow blues piece, somewhat in the mode of classic Portishead or Massive Attack. I hear it as a lament, declaration of need, and prayer for love.

I JUST WANT MY ANGEL BACK

You’ve been dropping bombs all day,
Just blowin’ up my heart.
Baby that’s not the way
to show you care.
So sorry ‘bout that pain
dropping you out the sky.
I know how much you hate it
when your soul starts to cry.

(CHORUS)
But I’m not going down with you,
I’ve lived in hell before.
Said I’m not going down with you
and I’ll tell you one thing more––
I just want my angel back.

[BLUES GUITAR AND SAXOPHONE WITH PIANO BRIDGE]

You’ve been shooting dreams all night,
Killing visions in my head.
Baby love can’t survive
when you treat it so bad.
Your blues are way too strong,
You gotta climb back to the sky.
Your smile’s been gone too long,
We need some time to fly.

Cause I will not go down with you,
I’ve lived in hell before.
No I’m not going down with you,
And I’ll tell you one thing more––
I want some joy for my angel,
Bed’s too cold without an angel,
Can’t live or die without my angel.
I just want my angel back.

[BRIDGE]

You’ve been dropping bombs all day.
You’ve been blowin’ up my heart.
You know that’s not the way
to show you care.
So sorry ‘bout that pain
dropping you out the sky.
I know how much you hate it
when your soul starts to cry.

But I’m not going down with you.
I’ve lived in hell before.
Said I will not go down with you.
And I’ll tell you one thing more––
You gotta give me back my angel,
This bed’s too cold without an angel,
Can’t live or die without my angel,
Come on now give me back my angel,
Come on now give me back my angel,
Come on now give me back my angel.
