Maybe Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, or Janis Joplin

I wrote the lyrics THE CARDS ON YOUR TABLE while in a rare but serious honky tonk country mode, but this can also be performed as rocking blues or funky jazz. When I attempt to sing it, the tempo is always upbeat, but I’m sure it would sound much better, with some gender reversal, performed by a talent of Shania Twain’s or Dolly Parton’s caliber. I get a kick out of imagining what Janis Joplin might have done with it too. It’s long but fun.

THE CARDS ON YOUR TABLE

What’s the name of this game?
Baby can I play?
Well I’ve been looking
for a party since yesterday.
I got a pocket full of chips
and my ante is up.
I need a dealer
with style
and a loving touch.
I got a jack,
I got a deuce
and this big ole king,
but a queen Is what I’m missin’
if you know what I mean.

(chorus)
Well you can kiss me
you can trump me
you can shuffle my deck!
I’ll give you so much gooey lovin’
you will never forget:
That I’m a hot-dealing daddy,
I don’t plan to lose!
If you’re a slow-motion mama
you can swing on my groove.
Hey hey! The cards on your table
are looking good!
Uh bay-bay-bay-bay-bay-bay-bay-Bee!
The cards on your table
are looking sooo good!

You won the first round
but this second one’s mine.
Ouch! I guess I win again,
it sure feels fine.
You’re sinking pretty fast
but don’t feel bad,
I got an ace up my sleeve
gonna make you so glad.
Let’s deal another hand,
this could take all night,
you’ll play a lot better
if we turn off these lights.

Well did you hear
what I said Bay-Bee!?
The cards on your table
are looking good!
Uh shooby dooby dooby do da dwee!
The cards on your table
are lookin’ real good!

So what’s the name of this game?
Did we ever say?
At this point
it don’t matter much anyway.
If it’s poker, that’s cool,
gin rummy too.
I just needed an excuse
to get next to you.
Don’t stop dealing,
here comes the best part,
I slip you my ace,
you give me your hearts.
You got the sweetest little royal flush!
The cards on your table
are looking real good!

(repeat chorus to fade)
