Re the NRA and the gun lobby---and Steves post
Re The NRA and the Gun Lobby
New Song written at 2.15 AM last night----in the style of Johnny Cash
Life is a Loaded Gun
Over in the 'States they call it destiny
Back home in Ireland they call it treachery
On the banks of the Yangste it is poverty
Life is a loaded gun
They say that the wild west never died
Real men still carry them, fondled at their side
The Soldiers and the Lawmen, sometimes weep with pride
Life is a loaded gun
Chorus;
And their victims are laid down in rows
In cities and in Shanty towns, that's the way it goes
Mothers look for children with labels on their toes
Life is a loaded gun
The Devil sits in his rocking chair
Smiling down upon the deep despair
A swagger or a hideous curse, another soul slips in his purse
Life is a loaded gun
Men in high places drink a toast
Spread their evil power from coast to coast
They decide how the world is run
With a life and a loaded gun

Brilliant, Rob - and so horrid that it's always about money and greed ..... it's a false debate, just one more issue that is being used to divide our beautiful country, but this one is stunning in its naked disregard for human life and spirit.
You said it perfectly

Great lyrics, Rob. I assume there will be music? This song says it all with the usual grace and courage that you possess.

A truly excellent lyric, Rob. And, if you don't mind my saying so, it evoked another song for me (I think that it was the "Devil" reference):
"The Devil's Right Hand" by Steve Earle.
In case you didn't know, that is a compliment!

Much truth in those lyrics. I love it. In this country, we are a people divided. We have a culture of violence that has become a positive feedback loop. We can learn a lot from other less violent cultures.
