selling MP3s online
"It's just inevitable that people are gonna steal music----to change that you don't want to be fighting them and incriminate them. You wanna somehow create a better package; you need to be somehow creating something people feel they should be paying for."

I really don't have a problem with people downloading music for free from thier friends. I have a few of my tunes on my website people can download for free. I figure at this point, it just means more exposure and a kind of free advertisement.
Now on the other hand, If someone took my song and blatenly stuck thier name on it and started selling it as thiers........ then that's a different thing alltogether. To infringe on one's copyrights to me is inexcusable theft! I don't post anyone's covers without permission, and I would expect the very same respect towards my own music. I do copyright each song seperately rather than as a whole CD. Infringement is one of the reasons I do this.
I'm a very giving person, and if anyone wants or needs something, I usually don't have a problem with it. But I would like a simple "may I", or "can we work something out" asked of me first.

I think along similar lines to offlockit.
If someone shares an mp3 of other bit of music media between friends that's good, it means people like my music and it spreads the word.
If someone takes on of my CD's copies and then sells it to make money, that's bad, that's piracy and it deprives me of my livelyhood. (The only good thing is that if someone will by my CD / mp3 from a pirate, they might well buy from me too at later date.)

The person with the money ;-). I guess that's going vary from person to person and artists to artists. Good sound quality, some form of exclusivity (limited edition mp3s ? Don't how you kane any form of digital media limited edition :-))
