PROTEST MUSIC
Protest Music has been around for a long time. Some of the early protest songs were made by the afro -american slaves describing the conditions under which they lived, and no doubt some of them lost their lives for speaking out! "Old Man River" "Death don't have no Mercy"
Dylans earlier material "Blow'n in the Wind", "Hard rains gonna Fall" had lyrics that encouraged folk to think and question their view of the world.
Music can be so much more than a pretty sound, or wallpaper or a path to seduction.(lol)
Global warming is an issue that is not going to go away, this summer in my country we have iceburgs floating off our coast, which have broken away from antarcticas Ross ice shelf.
We have a song "Coastline" on our site which is about a womans ageing as a metaphor for global warming!
We have also had our song "What is war " in the top 30 on "Living with war" neil youngs site.
There are many other musos on IAC who are making a difference by challenging the herd mentality. We would love to hear from you!!!

Hi guys,
it's always good to hear from you too & Happy New Year to all :) We just wanted to say in these days of political correctness and so many flawed laws shutting us all up it's a blessing we can still write our grievances into a song! We just uploaded a song to speak out about primates being used in research, 'Monkey in a Cage'. And we'll be over to listen to your songs & catch up again soon.

Thanks Maria,
Your voice is being heard all over as a advocate for animal rights, and I applaud you for that! There is so much opportunity for talented musos to get out there and make a difference within their own communities using their skills of lyric writing to add to the great history of protest !
I reckon the first song ever sung was probably a protest song?
Like;" Who stole my club?"

Hi again & yeah you're probably right! I just watched a film about globalisation and Bob Dylan's song is in it, 'Union Sundown', it fits so perfectly, that's what I love about music, how the sound and lyrics can really fit the picture and be the soundtrack to the truth.
Bye for now
Maria :)
