How many Sites?
How many sites do you have showcasing your music and how many is too many?
We have our 1. Myspace, 2.a selling site at www.cruxy.com 3. IACmusic.com 4. www.ezfolk.com (selling) 5. a blog and showcase at www.worldsentiment.com
that's 5 sites, only one has really sold mp3s, (cruxy) but iac has been the most interesting, and has the most support, and the better music!
If not active, it doesn't take long for the traffic to slow to a trickle!

Im in like 5 and they're all lame for on reason or another, Sep iac , I have made 6 sales here I think. Must have been some drunks with someone else's card. He he
Best thing to me is high bitrate loads right in the door. Who the hell wants to reduce their music to a freakin wabble, others blow for that reason alone. Peace and happy sales, Tell your friends, buy my music. Its kinda up to us, iac don't even get a cut. How awesome is that. Some are 50% . Whats 50% of nothing. Dumb bastards, killing themselves. Peace again

I used to have my stuff on 7 or 8 sites... I spent a lot of time trying to give each site equal time and energy, that just left me drained and no time to do what I love..(writing music).. Now that I have found IAC this is the ONLY site that I spend any time at.. This place is far and above the BEST indie site on the web today... I still have some music out there at other places but I am not putting anything new there and where allowed, I'm trying to place links to bring my two fans and a few friends over to my page here at IAC and to the IAC site itself. I think having one or two songs in a lot of different places is great for promotion, but have decided this is the place I want to be and to concentrate my efforts from. A Man, Woman, or Band, needs a place to base home from... What better place than IAC ! .. Scott and crew are wonderful.. but it is really the indies site themselves.. and what we collectively do or don't do will determine the site (and our) fate..

I hadn't really thought about this until the subject came up so I started to count all the sites where I have music displayed....mmmm....well I got to 15 and I know there are more but to be honest, not only have I forgotton the names of the sites, I have no idea what my passwords are and the embarassing thing is I can't even remember the name of my BAND! because it has morphed so many times. If I do accidentally come accross myself on a site I find songs I've forgotten I'd written which is weird.
I have only been tempted to pay for upgrade membership at 3 sites but have found sites where you can upload quite a few songs for no charge. I think they have all had selling facilities but they're usually quite low key and unproductive.
I was recruited to IAC when they had a promotion push at Garageband last year I think. I found several PMs from IACers (DJs) saying "we are looking for music like yours at IAC". I found this very tempting and I remember about six of us all transfered from GB to IAC at the same time and I know at least 4 of us are still here at IAC and still active and interested.
My only chance of selling came at Gargeband where I had a 30 plus fan club and was asked to sell my Comedy stuff in CD form - I still haven't produced the CD and I've lost interest in that site too now SO....IAC I am proud to tell you that you are MY ONE AND ONLY.
I do think it would be fun to have an IAC CYBER SHOP that was more immediately accessible, with novelty graphics maybe set up with a sexy shop assistant as a vocal guide (I'll volunteer haha!) and instructions like you get at e bay.
The best place I know to find BUYERS and particularly buyers of independent music are NON MUSIC forums that have music thread sections... i.e our local Football fans forum is full of people swapping notes about where and who is hot and they are spending their hard earned cash on downloads rather than commercial outlets on the High Street. I have linked my IAC site to them but my music is not suitable for the demographics there, nevertheless I got good feedback.
Hope some of this helps and may spark some pro active readers here - Cheers Jilly x

Jilly, I love that!
We are all music whores( in the nicest sense) trying out what does and doesn;t work for our songs!
On my blog which is not specifically a music site I get all kinds of comments and feedback (Not all good ) from all kinds of geezers!
It does show which tunes are acceptable to a cross section from pro war rednecks to ex hippy liberals, and it's interesting how one comment will follow another eg a song played 200 times may have 130 comments, another similar track with 200 plays will have none!
I call this herd mentality!

Another thought.
Many of us have Myspace sites, where we make friends fleetingly, then move on.
Will this over time have an effect on real relationships , not in the cyber world!
I'm not knocking it, but it's like ships that pass in the night !

Serious answer, it's 2. My Space and IAC, these two got it covered, you don't need nothing else.

MMMMM! maybe?
Jilly,
Your cyber shop idea is not silly, Indies should not fall into the trap of getting so close to mainstream they are like a clone, and any new idea that differenciates from that, is like creating an image or brand that is fun!
She Or HE, could show a catalogue with all the genres, and maybe another search by name, the shop could look like a cool rock shop with band posters etc!!Ok I'll stop!
I guess what I'm saying is numbers alone won't brand this site / It's Indieness (new word?) will!
As Mano band said It's what the artists collectively do that will make a difference!
