That's pretty cool, mine haven't got much past the 65 cent mark yet! But the cummulative effect will still be useful!

I think there is mischief going on!!!
no names ---but there is a number one that is barely able to be listened to because the recording is so bad---someone must have it playing 24/7

And Rob ... the surprise is?
I don't participate (I don't need the 2 bucks ... nor believe in the concept of an artist paying to receive a benefit like this) ... but someone is obviously attempting to recoup their buy in.
They should be banned immediately from the program.
Everybody recognizes a piece of WTF? when they hear it, and you mention your own amazement. Something stinks.
It is not surprising that someone might attempt to take advantage of the good hearted attempt at sharing by IAC.
Kick their ass out ...

Don't jump to conclusions!
The only requirement to get to number is play count, quality is not a prerequesite (sic). If somebody has a song posted on a popular website they build up plays.
Now name the names so I can check it out and boost their playcount even further.

Kev,
You are a rich person with no belief in their own music, as you have subtly stated (maybe not consiously) many times. 30 songs earning $2 would make an inpact on my life, obviously I wouldn't retire on it, but do not belittle us that strive to make a living at it, just becuase you have decided to be only a committed hobbyest.

If you mean the most obvious genre for an instrumental, then that artist was featured artist of the day at one point this month, so that would explain the high play count for thier first song, but then I'm not sure if you do as the quality isn't that bad a bit a harsh, but you should read the info and comments on the artsists page :-)
If you mean a different song then I can't find it :-)

Andy ... I belittle no artist for what they need to do.
I, like Rob, call out those that would game things to their advantage.
It's not honest gain.
Also ... regarding your other comments:
- I have a good job that pays the bills. I'm not rich, for no normal household can be so putting two kids through college. One down, one to go (fingers crossed) :^D
- I have TOTAL belief in myself and my music. Yet, I don't do it for a living because I have TOTAL LACK of faith in the music BUSINESS' ability to adequately support a family. I merely chose to not participate in the music business because my aforementioned job does a good job of supporting my household ...
... which leaves me the comfort of approaching music on unfettered terms ... because I'm not attempting to survive on it.
Best,
K-

Silverwood, if you would please, do list the unlistenable and gaming suspect song via email to iacsupporthotline at gmail dot com . It will help us and we appreciate this info.

Is this the comment you meant Andy?
"For the moment all songs were recorded with cheap headphones into my computer and than mixed with soundforge. I am planning to record the best songs in a professional studio in a few weeks."
Coz if so I found ALL that artist's tunes unlistenable.
(because of recording quality I hasten to add. They're probably fine choonz if you could hear them!))

Hooray - we have three songs that have consistently earned more than two dollars each!!! Marvellous! They are the top three in the World genre chart... Glittering Cities, I Think Of You, Making Mischief.
We are planning to spend our earnings on going iac prime perpetual - I guess you could call it "give and take" :)

LOL, someone is trying to game the PFP system? OMG.
THAT's desperation. What is it, a trillionth of a cent a play.
Just like mp3.com, in the old days - always someone trying to scam the system.
In the hundreds of hours it would take to by playing the thing over and over again to get ANY kind of money - the guy could be working - even at the shittiest job and making more money.
|
|
|
2/3/2009 7:31:03 AM
Ahh, the old mp3 days of PFP. I remember when that came into being - you had lizards coming out of every flat rock imaginable - putting up any piece of crap noise - a guy farting - in order to scam the system. Just lizards from everywhere trying to make a buck.
Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind...

@Kev
Rich is a relative term, I supose, you have the luxury of extra money to save for a pension, put your kids through college, which makes you rich compared to themany many who do not. So you can disdain $2. I don't critisize you for that, epecially if you work hard at you're job to acheive that. Me I'm much lower dow the financial scale, (though I don't consider myself poor as such, well not all the time anyway :-)). The drip feed of income from IAC will be of meaningful use to me, and I am thankful for the feature.
The return on it is far greater than at last.fm where it is difficult to interact and promote your music. In fact my streaming income there amounts to pennies per quater! With a minimum payout of 5.00 that's meaningless even as a token payment!
I'm continually looking for way to make money from music on-line, without compromising the music. I don't compromise it in real life, so I won't online. IAC seems to be the best. Google ads on my main website are also trickling in a few cents but, the mimimum payout for google ads is so high that may not ever work for me, (until I'm famous enough not to need it :-)).
As to my other comment about your disbelief in your music, it's gut feeling that has built up from raeding a number of your posts, and as you assure it's incorrect, I will apologise for the assertion. I only know your online persona, not the real Kev White, so have obviously misread between the lines. I won't delete it from my original post as I don't believe in that style of guerilla bloging, but consider the post retracted.
I for one think there is some dicipline gained from selling music. It has to be good enough to sell. But I guess that discipline can be gained in other ways. (i wish I'd stop typng 'I guess', seem to have picked and american accent).
[edit] replace a do with a don't in the first paragraph which I hope Kev hasn't read yet! AS it would undo what I was saying completely![/edit]

@all
I think we should be very careful, about accuseing anyone of gameing, just because they are further up the charts than us. Even before the pay per stream came in there occasioanl entries in the charts that I could not believe, some unexpectedly high, and some unexpectedly low, how I ever got my songs highre than some of Melody Gardots for instance defies belief!
The charts have always be volaltile, and quirky.

I don't disdain the $2, Andy. Not at all. I am at philosophical odds w/ IAC charging a fee for artists to receive revenue, but it's their biz, so they can do what they want.
I hope you make 500,000 times that with your music.
Best,
Kev-

i may have opened ---a can of worms!!
i don't want to personally "Diss" any artist here --they may have a big family and friends group who constantly listen to their toons-----
what worries me more is that someone checking out the top tunes ----will be put off listening to any more because of hearing ---what i feel is unlistenable material?
there is no problem with the skill level------- just the recording IMO we ourselves have some 4 tracks that are rough ---so I'm not talking perfection!!!!!
Some replies Kevin----i DO get your point about having to pay----my take is that with the whole market for CDs and MP3s shrinking a new path had to be found and maybe this is the Genisis------the ammounts are small i agree but
times 1000= $2,000 ---- all we need is to get out to the world!! heh!
Andy----yeah you may be a kind listener---i found it difficult not to turn off the player----absolutely no probs with the skills ---but this is a number one! in a popular genre represented by some amazing artists in times past---larree, Marc, steve twm etc
i watch the charts here more than most ---so maybe I take them too seriously!!!!
thanks all
Rob

I'm not surprised to see those three great songs doing so welllongevity is the reward for taking time and good production on excellent material-going perpetual is good cos it means you are here for the long haulno spitting the dummy!!
Saphire
it's always a temptation for artists to find creative ways to get more playsstraight out cheating is detrimental to all on the site (bots etc)
-just having your own material playing all day is probably more common??

WOW! To me, $2 is BIG money! We haven't made a DIME from IAC, since we've been here. i.e. ZERO. I was embarrassed about this for a minute, and then I thought-- hey I should remind folks to be thankful for what they ARE gettin' for their tunes.
It's all good, we're rich in other ways of life, that seem to matter more.
AND, as long as I don't WASTE too much time on IAC, a NON-money makin' music venture for us at this point; within' a month or two we should be finalizing with ROMULUS X RECORDS UK for the 2009 release WORLDWIDE of "The Best of Conversation Suicide...so far" !!!
If you haven't heard of Kenny Colgate -- he's the mastermind behind Romulus X, and ALL the OTHER Solo Artists & Bands on his ARTIST-centered Label are simply amazing. We couldn't be more honoured to be so close to being on his TEAM in REALITY.
But again, congrats on any $2 you can make out there, man. Ya gotta do it for love, but a little reward now and then is like phreakin' gold, ya know?
-luv, pHLeGmie

Nice post Phlegm!!
I think it takes time to get a handle on how this place ticks and I'm sure there's a few bucks heading your way re pay per play!
It's ALL about guys like Kenny giving a place to your material on his stations which he puts all around the net-----Our song " the Nobody" is still near the top of it's genre thanks to Kenny picking it up over 2 years ago!!!
ewe rock!!
